As a retail juggernaut facing multiple policy issues (such as minimum wage hikes and tax policy), Walmart's influence extends from the shopping aisles to the halls of Congress. While fans of the the shopping chain laude the company's wide selection of affordable products, critics accuse it of unfair labor practices and hurting small businesses.
And although many Democrats have joined with labor organizations to criticize Walmart, Democratic candidates Ronald Kind (D-WI), Steny Hoyer (D-MD), Enrique Cuellar (D-TX), and Xavier Becerra (D-CA) were actually the largest recipients of campaign contributions from the retail giant.
As mega-corporations like Walmart continue to have a presence in campaign fundraising, household shopping may be more political than anyone realized!
