My grandfather, who was born in Alabama in 1909, only received a third grade education. He eventually became a Michigan State Senator, serving 18 years in the legislature. The Legislation that he presented helped to create new colleges and effective economic development programs.

Growing up in Detroit, I witnessed the impact of labor unions on families and communities. This led me to obtain a degree in labor law from Cornell University. I currently apply my legal education to help economically challenged communities.

As the first African American and Female Chairperson of the Young Democrats of America Labor Caucus, I worked with labor leaders nationally to gain an appreciation for the ever evolving field of labor in terms of both economic and human rights.

These experiences ultimately led me to join the Hillary Clinton campaign in South Florida. Even though that election did not turn out favorably for our community, I cannot sit idly by and watch the destruction of our democracy. I am therefore running for the Pembroke Pines District 1 City Commission seat on March 15th 2018.

As District 1 Pembroke Pines Commissioner, I will fight income and wealth inequality by:

  • Increasing investment in youth jobs programs for disadvantaged teens.
  • Expanding public - private job training partnerships in our schools.
  • Enacting a free childcare and prekindergarten program.
  • Building mixed-income housing.
  • Enabling workforce-affordable housing for teachers, police officers, firefighters, and municipal workers to live in the neighborhoods where they work.
  • Enhancing car-share ride programs for Pembroke Pine residents to find a more affordable way to get to work.
  • Attracting new corporate headquarters to Pembroke Pines and more...

If we are going to fight for our poor and middle class, we must take back our state and local governments. That voice starts with your endorsement. I know we can do it. I look forward to your vote for District 1 City Commissioner of Pembroke Pines. Let's work together to improve Pembroke Pines!
