Why you should support Victoria Sterling

Victoria Sterling is seeking a seat on the Jefferson City Public School Board. Sterling worked in higher education for five years and currently works as an abuse and neglect investigator for Missouri Department of Mental Health.

If elected, one major thing Sterling would like to focus on is raising accreditation scores, which have seen a drop in recent years.

“I would like to see a vast improvement in JCPS' accreditation score, particularly in the area of subgroups. The accreditation score is currently 76.1, but the score for the education of minority students, low-income students, and students with disabilities is only 50. It is important to make this a school district where any student has the opportunity to achieve,” Sterling said.

Sterling would also like to eventually see Jefferson City build a second public high school but believes that now is not the right time, stating that there are problems that need to be fixed first.

Once Sterling and her fiance, Mat Kendrick, marry, they plan to adopt a child who will attend JCPS. She hopes to ensure that her child and the rest of the children in JCPS obtain a higher quality education than what many report from their current experiences at JCPS.

Sterling believes that her experience with public policy and background as an investigator makes her especially qualified for the position.

“My job is to be a fact-finder. When something goes wrong, I talk to people involved and get supporting documents to put together a fact-based narrative as to what happened. This allows me to give systemic considerations to agencies and give suggestions for how to prevent issues from arising in the future,” Sterling said.

Day 1...so many contributions!

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far. We currently have $425, which is 21% of the $2,000 goal. I'd love to see this goal met by the end of the week, which would mean raising $262.50 a day. There are two ways to make this happen:

1. Share this with your friends and family.

2. Donate a second time. The maximum donation without having to report your info is $100...can you give extra to make your total $100?

Your support puts me closer to helping the kids in Jefferson City...let's do this!
