I am Shaiking Mathis Writer and film director. From 2009 to current I have been using media as a means to create jobs for the citizens of Illinois as well as ignite the brains of future entrepreneurs. With the support of like minded people I will use my influence and creativity to create more jobs for citizens of Illinois as well as answer the problems of poverty and violence that plague or communities,I will fight to pass laws that reassure the advancement of our society whether than the downfall. My films have provided opportunities for youth to be part of the conflict resolution process. They have brainstormed root causes of conflict based on their experiences and brainstorm how to use media as a mode of conflict resolution. My plan is to give everyone the opportunity to be directly involved in entrepreneurship and telling a story of what their needs, goals and aspirations are through media and political influence .
The Robert “Yummy” Sandifer Story film project is an example of how we used media to resolve conflict the summer of 2013. The cast and crew consisted of over 100 people from diverse backgrounds which is something to take pride in. One of the main objectives in filming the movie was to show viewers that we all have something to contribute. Extra effort was taken into including actors from all of the protected classes: race, color, religion, national origin, sex or sexual orientation, disability, and familial status. The casting call for the production brought in adult actors (some are residents from Evanston,Skokie,Chicago,Glenview, and Wilmette) with a diverse set of acting skills. The dedication and commitment of the adult actors made it easier for younger actors to take direction and feed off of their energy. This made shooting each scene rewarding. The youth and adults that were involved in the project learned how to maintain a strong work ethic. They had to manage their time, remember lines, get into character and improvise while working on this project. Majority of the cast of the movie came from Chicago, Evanston and Skokie. Summer 2013 was a non-violent summer for those involved in my film project. My goal is to build a better place for us all through economy, jobs, fair laws, political justice, peace and hrmony.
