This campaign is about bringing positive change to Lane County, Oregon. East Lane County, District 5, commissioner position is up for election in 2018. This is a non-partisan race in a huge district. There are nearly 50,000 voters to contact by May 2018. With your help we can reach these people and activate them for these mid term elections in which turnout will be critical.

We, the people, will stand together and make our voices heard. By rejecting corporate contributions and relying on small dollar donors, we will show that ordinary people can make a difference and win against big money and career politicians!

We understand the need for good jobs, with living wages. This will be a focus for this campaign. Our rural communities are struggling. We need new ideas and fresh strategies to combat poverty and provide for our families.

We understand that health care should be a fundamental right for all people. In the absence of a single payer system, it is our duty to do everything we can to provide affordable, convenient health care to every person, young and old, veteran and student, mothers and fathers.

We understand education is the foundation of our nation. We must be dedicated to strengthening early education in order to provide our nation’s youth with the schooling they deserve. College must be more affordable for everyone. Rising tuition rates and excessive student loan rates make college nearly impossible to pay for these days. We must recognize that community colleges, trade schools, and universities can transform lives. A college degree opens up doors that would otherwise remain closed. Higher education lifts up communities and helps end the cycle of poverty.

We understand that climate change is an urgent environmental problem and intend to act accordingly. We will fight to combat climate change and work to transition us to clean, renewable energy.

This campaign is about listening to the people and being a voice for the people. This is about the power of we. Together, we can make a difference!

Please consider becoming a sustaining member of this campaign by making a small recurring weekly or monthly donation. Recurring donations can be set up here.

Holiday update

Many thanks to all of our supporters. You’ve helped us tremendously already and it is very much appreciated. I hope you’re in the midst of a wonderful holiday season and you’re staying warm during these cold winter months.

Speaking of cold, winter months, if you’re an Egan Warming Center volunteer your services are critical and you deserve a special thanks. For anyone wishing to help staff warming centers for the unhoused, the next training in Eugene is December 19th. Get in touch with me or look at my Facebook page for details on where/when. There’s been a number of cold days already and they desperately need more people trained and showing up for shifts to help ease the load.

Now a campaign update. I’ve personally knocked over 1000 doors so far. I really enjoy this! Meeting so many people and  building the beginnings of a relationship as we discuss problems and problem solving in this county has really been an exciting journey. I look forward to continuing it through the election and I hope you’ll join me.

We’ve passed over $5000 in fundraising so far thanks to folks like you. For a campaign built on small individual donations, your continued support is needed, whether it’s small monthly donations or volunteering in some capacity.

If you are interested in volunteering, we have about 30 different ways to get engaged depending on what you would like to do. Can you commit an hour a week to helping this campaign? 3 hours or more? Whatever your availability, we would love to hear from you and get you plugged in.

We have an amazing Volunteer Coordinator, Rebecca, who would love to speak with you. Please email the campaign or sign up to volunteer at our website www.JamesBarber.vote

Thanks, again, I hope we can connect soon!

Look out!

Thanks for following this campaign. We're now door knocking and gathering signatures to get on the ballot. Keep an eye out for us in your neighborhood!

If you would like to canvass with James in your neighborhood, please get in touch with the campaign.

Asking for money to fund this campaign isn't the most fun thing to do, but you will never see a doom and gloom, fear based email begging for a donation. We are excited, having fun, and believe a positive, issues based campaign will be successful.

Remember, this campaign is people powered. We are running on individual donations only. Your support is critical! Donations help purchase literature to pass out as we canvass houses and table at events. They help us get voter data, run a website, travel throughout the district, and generally reach out to voters so they know about this election and why a vote for James is a vote for leadership they can trust to fight for progressive values with integrity.

Help me get the word out by donating or volunteering today. We really appreciate you being a part of this campaign. Be sure to spread the word. Share this on social media and talk to friends and family.

It's official! We've filed with the county

I'm am now officially filed to run for East Lane County Commissioner, District 5.

There's two options to qualify for the ballot now. Option 1: Pay the county $50 or

Option 2: Gather 307 signatures from at least 3 precincts in my district.

If you've been following along at home, you know that I am a huge proponent of campaign finance reform. As such, I have pledged to only accept individual donations. No money from super PACs, corporations, or unions.

Since I'm relying on your donations in order to provide signage and literature for canvassing, we're taking option 2 for the win! Only I'm not going to stop at 307 signatures. We'll just keep gathering signatures and talking to folks until the deadline to submit.

Thanks for all of the support so far. Let's get this in gear and really accelerate the outreach to East Lane County. I'm excited to talk with people about how we can make Lane County a better place to live, work, and raise our families.

If you have thoughts, ideas, or concerns I'd love to hear from you!

A RAISE for Lane County

Many of the people of this district and all across this county, state, and country are struggling. It's time we start rebuilding trust in our elected officials and our government. We will start here, with this campaign for East Lane County commissioner. I propose a RAISE for Lane County.

RAISE means Reform, Accessibility, Integrity, Sustainability, and Equity.

Reform - bring back a government of, by and for the people

Accessibility - make your voice heard, transparency of process

Integrity - integrity in all decisions, we must be able to trust in our elected officials

Sustainability - of economic and social development and of natural resources, we must combat the massive income inequality that threatens economic stability and protect our natural resources

Equity - Whose government? OUR government! We must instill a sense of ownership in our government and make it one we can be proud of again

That's what this campaign is about and I ask for your support. Please, add your endorsement on my Crowd PAC page and on my Facebook page.

You can donate $5 right now to support this campaign by clicking here, or you can become a sustaining member of this campaign by setting up small automatic weekly or monthly donations here.

Thank you all for everything that you do in this political revolution. When we stand together, we win!

Let's keep going!

It's been a busy week! Meeting with leaders around the state last week left little time to campaign, but we took a few good strides in this attempt to bring about change locally. There was a great Listening Leads to Action event, Our Revolution Lane County had a well attended meeting, and Grassroots IMPACT took some steps in finalizing their structure in preparation for making an impact in the May elections this year. The number of people looking to get involved in their community right now is very heartening.

We are planning a campaign kickoff party for the end of this month. Keep an eye out for an invite!

We are also going to begin scheduling a listening tour throughout March. If you are interested in holding a small house party, please get in touch with the campaign at this link.

Our fundraising efforts have helped get business cards ordered and bumper stickers will be ordered shortly. With your help we can get yard signs and other literature.

Consider becoming a sustaining member of this campaign by setting up a small weekly or monthly donation through the end of the election. This campaign is funded by small personal donation, not corporations and special interests. Every little bit you can contribute will help us win and show that big money has no place in our elections!

Thank you to everyone who has contributed and helped this campaign by sharing with family and friends. When we stand together we can win!
