THE RESILIENCE creates local co-op spaces for convening Resistance efforts, providing the resources needed to shake up national politics. These are WeWork-type warehouses and storefronts built beyond one campaign and primed for action, your headquarters in the fight for right.

Why this? Why NOW?

No one is focused on the physical space and community-focused culture necessary to channel new activism into sustained habits and victories. We must lift up new heroes, build our bench – here is a beacon where talent and tactics align for maximum impact.

It's proven when we get people working under one roof, and provide a positive experience, people work better. This needs to happen in political field offices –now more than ever– and be available to help emerging orgs like Swing Left/Flippable/Run For Something/Sister District/etc. thrive.

How does this work?

We keep things fun and productive, a coworking space where:

  • Young and new community members meet and engage at the local level
  • Supporters of one issue learn about/access/support other organized efforts.
  • Campaign veterans provide presidential-level strategy and tactics to local elections.
  • Volunteers attend organizing/digital/data trainings and bolster new engagement with time-proven tactics.

When we start speaking a common language, when we start sharing resources and finding common threads among groups, we shape the narrative of this movement and become stronger and more effective. Directly invest in local community to impact national issues. We will take this simple concept across the country and mitigate the seismic political climate change we face.

And let’s be radically inclusive. You are welcome here whether you feel the Bern at a nice fireplace warmth or have been “With Her” for decades. Single-issue voters may also have single-issues that would bring them to the middle. We need to nurture literal common ground to meet them.

Where do we start?

Our best chance to prove our effectiveness as a collective is the major elections in VIRGINIA THIS NOVEMBER. Virginia is one of the only states holding elections in 2017, and for decades has been a classical test of political realignment after presidential elections.

We will open our doors this Summer in Richmond and expand operations across the country in time for the 2018 midterms.

Where are the funds going?

Plain and simple, it will cost ~$37,000/mo to operate each office. So for us to successfully reach our goal, it means with your help we have a downpayment to start this initiative, and every additional dollar is runway to get us to November and beyond.

The largest base cost is RENT & UTILITIES. We can’t provide a roof to all these Resistance efforts if we can’t keep the lights on. We will start with one full-time host-in-residence to reach out to neighboring business and orgs and keep a full slate of events in this community space. Two additional part-time staff will be drawn from local colleges to train them, support them, and make the space truly a Richmond effort. We hope these staffers will take their experience to help us start up new co-ops across the country or commit to stay in Richmond after they graduate college.

If you're wondering who we want to benefit from this space.

We want fresh faces to enter the arena and run for something at the state and local level, to arm next Dems and their action groups with presidential-level tactics. If we’re going to swing left, it’s because we’ve identified what counties are flippable and get ground game into sister districts.

Nothing should be proprietary about altruism. It will take all of us to join the chorus and share ideas, volunteers, tools– then we will be INDIVISIBLE, and become the forward majority. We win elections, we win the future.

FAQ!

Are you a non-profit?

Yes, we are establishing THE RESILIENCE as a non-profit. With this CrowdPac campaign, we want to demonstrate the demand for a cultural hub like this in the progressive movement so we can go to donors and get the funding we need to scale right and fast.

How long do you intend for each “Rebel Base” to be in operation?

This is an INVESTMENT IN THE FUTURE. We need to build community, connect leaders, and demonstrate the kind of vision that liberals have for America, that can keep it great (pun intended). That means truly building roots that extend beyond the election cycle. We're here to stay.

What organizations are you working with?

Everyone and anyone. As mentioned above we are thrilled by all the new efforts popping up and want to add value to their efforts and help them succeed. We will coordinate with campaigns when applicable, namely to make sure the efforts that happen at THE RESILIENCE are aiding/amplifying efforts and not counter-productive.

I know someone in Virginia (or another future location) who can help; who should I contact?

Fantastic. Send something to join@theresilience.org

When can I expect to receive my perks?

We’d love to see you show off your support for THE RESILIENCE. Expect perks to be sent around the launch of our first outpost in Richmond this Summer.

What if this thing doesn’t pan out?

I’m not stopping if you’re not stopping? Are you stopping?!? Thought so. If we do not secure enough funding to build our first Rebel Base by July, we will distribute all resources to groups that have remained resilient and are aiding the efforts of local candidates this November.

What is your Spirit Animal?

Joe Biden.

Are you impressed you read this whole thing?

Yes. It means you’re committed to the change that needs to happen and I can’t wait to meet you in Richmond this year.
