Carl Spoerer will take a balanced, common-sense approach to representing Illinois’ 15th Congressional District. More interested in public service than partisan politics, Carl would replace Congressman John Shimkus, a 22 year incumbent and Washington insider, who recently made embarrassing national headlines for suggesting that men should not be required to purchase insurance plans that include coverage for women during pregnancy.

Carl believes in common-sense values like honesty, fiscal responsibility and fairness for farmers, miners, Unions, workers and other groups who have been left behind by Washington insiders. Rather than voting in lockstep with Congressional leaders, Carl will be an independent voice fighting to protect Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, education, programs critical to farming and mining communities, Unions and to provide opportunities and incentives so the young people in our communities will want to stay in Illinois to raise their families. Carl will be an open, accessible representative who will listen to and never forget the needs of working men and women in District 15.

“Carl respects Illinois citizens' right to affordable health care- we need a candidate that won't allow insurance companies to exclude coverage of pre-existing conditions, put us into high-risk pools, and won't cut essential health benefits such as maternity, pediatrics, mental health and prescription. Americans will die if these come back into the marketplace.”
