Miguel Levario was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. He left home to pursue his education at Notre Dame and Stanford. He finished his PhD in History at the University of Texas in Austin before taking a position in 2007 as a professor at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. He has always been a determined activist, serving as a faculty adviser for the Tech Student Democrats, working with the 2012 and 2013 LULAC Youth Summit and was a panelist at the 2016 Lubbock Regional Latino Policy Summit.

But with the current state of affairs in Washington and the tone-deaf response constituents are receiving from their current representation, Miguel recognizes the time to stand up is now. While battles about bathrooms and border walls continue, the livelihood of farmers and their workers are being threatened by moneyed interests, our children's public education is on the chopping block and our clean energy resources, which are poised to create tens of thousands of jobs in our region, are being stifled. As the political climate of our democracy deteriorates, Miguel understands these issues have no time to be ignored and is ready to represent the people of the Texas 19th Congressional District in Washington D.C. while remaining available to his constituents.

First Friday Art Trail

Miguel has an update from the field! He went to meet voters at Lubbock's First Friday Art trail.  He met so many eager people that he ran out of cards to share with them. Miguel wanted to tell you a little bit about what this event was like and why it is so special:

We arrived at the First Friday Art Trail at around 6:00 pm and walked immediately towards the plaza where a full ensemble of Mariachis were playing. My children love mariachi music and were instantly drawn to the sounds. We stayed for a few minutes and then made our way inside of LHUCA art gallery to view the LatinX: Artistas de Tejas exhibit. The exhibit was the first time in LHUCA’s history that it was curated a show of this theme. We were so moved by the various art pieces.

LUHCA provided wall paper for adults and children to color in egg shapes and form whatever subject they desired. There were a number of artist shows on the CASP lot and food trucks were sprinkled across the property. Independent vendors were also present including Varsity Bookstore and Wade Gordon Academy—Cosmetology School who braided hair and sprayed glitter on children’s hair. My kids, of course, took part.

Please, donate. With your support Miguel will be able to carry this campaign forward and work to protect the special things about the place we call home.
