Why you should support Jessica Morse

Update!  My campaign has launched!  Learn more at my website: www.Morse4Congress.com

Jessica Morse is a national security strategist who has worked in some of the most dangerous places in the world. With over a decade of service in the Defense Department, State Department, and USAID, she dedicated her life to serving her country.  Now she’s home serving her community in the Northern California region where she grew up.

The people of California’s 4th district deserve a representative who is fearless, solution-driven and an unrelenting advocate. That’s Jessica Morse. Incumbent Tom McClintock has three things to show for his 40 years as a politician: naming two post offices and a mountain. He has proposed commercializing Yosemite, eliminating salmon habitat, and supported President Trump’s immigration ban and botched health care plan.  Jessica knows her community, she knows her district, and she’s proven that she is willing to step in and step up to tough challenges.

  • She hiked from Lake Tahoe to Mt. Whitney, trekking the 500 mile-length of California’s 4th District. She grew up camping, hunting, and fishing throughout Northern California. Jessica and her cousins still manage the forest land their ancestors purchased as pioneers in the late 1800s. Grateful to the generations before her that protected this beautiful land, she is committed to doing the same.
  • As an aid worker in Iraq at the height of the war, Jessica worked side by side with our military, seeing firsthand the sacrifice made by our troops and their families. She traveled throughout Iraq investigating the impact of US tax dollars on Iraqis. She saw what worked and what didn’t and understood the impact of bad political decisions on innocents.
  • In Iraq, Jessica uncovered human trafficking on the military bases.  She liberated the young men brought to Iraq against their will and later served on a Congressional Commission to change laws and regulations that had overlooked bonded labor within US government sub-contracts.
  • While managing multi-billion dollar federal budgets at the State Department and USAID, Jessica eliminated redundancies, offering innovative solutions for reducing the national debt while maintaining critical diplomatic tools.
  • As one of the few female civilians at US Pacific Command, Jessica served as an advisor to the four-star PACOM Commander on India and Pakistan. Developing a solution to a seemingly intractable problem, Jessica convinced PACOM leadership to refocus defense strategy around renewable energy, which led to stronger ties in South Asia.
  • Jessica has an MPA in National Security from Princeton University and a BA in Economics from Principia.

Jessica is warm, approachable, and great with kids, but don't let that fool you. When it comes to standing up for what’s right, whether it's clean water or human rights, she's tough as nails and battle tested. Grounded by her principles, Jessica has solved problems in some of the most extreme and unmovable circumstances.  Jessica will make a tremendous impact in Congress.  Help get her there!

Look out Tom McClintock

Tom McClintock voted to jeopardize the health care of over 200,000 of his constituents.  Last night, I joined the other prospective candidates in a forum to prove to McClintock that he has competition and he's never safe.  Watch the entire thing here -- skip to the very end if you want to see my message for Tom.  https://www.facebook.com/jessi...

Women Standing Together

The Placer Women Democrats held the first Candidate's forum to help determine who would stand up and represent California's fourth district.  In a district with a 150 year-old Congressional history, no woman has ever represented.  Tuesday night, four women, including me, answered the call.  Two hundred members of the community came out to hear us speak and ask questions about our campaigns.  I feel so honored and proud to be part of a movement of women stepping up and stepping into the limelight to serve.  I was overwhelmed by the warm response of the group and the support and encouragement I have received since.  Thank you all for joining this movement to take back California's 4th district!

Supporting Our Troops Through Science

Thank you for all of your overwhelming supporting.  Today, I joined the crowds in Tahoe/Truckee to celebrate the March for Science.  I marched today to support our troops.  Transporting fuel across warzones resulted in over 3,000 American casualties.  Renewable energy innovation will keep our soldiers safe.  I've written a new blog about my experience and insights in Iraq on the need for renewable energy investment.  See it here: https://morse2018.wordpress.co...

The Start of a Beautiful Friendship

Playing in the sand along the banks of the Merced river in Yosemite at the ripe age of 10, I confided in my cousin that I wanted to be a Congresswoman.  "Why?" she asked me.  "Because I have ideas to help people."  I replied with confidence.

Today, I begin that journey in the very district where that conversation took place.  And after a lifetime of of lessons in academia and the school of hard knocks, my ideas are more refined, practical and strategic, but I've never lost site of my goal: helping my community and my country.

Now there is an urgency to my childhood dream.  Tom McClintock, the incumbent in this district, which includes Yosemite, Lake Tahoe and much of California's natural beauty, is proposing legislation that would jeopardize and exploit the natural resources of the district.  He sits on the natural resources committee, so holds a great deal of influence over the use of America's lands.  If McClintock stays in power much longer, our natural splendor will be sullied. I want my future children to be able to shove chubby hands into the sparkling sand and crystal clear waters of Yosemite's rivers and dream big dreams, inspired by the boundless splendor of California's wilderness.

“My joy in supporting Jessica's candidacy for the 4 th US Congressional seat in California is without limit!! Like many of us in the " Baby Boomer" generation my earliest awakening to politics was very unsettling. Everything seemed pretty routine until a November day in my sophomore year of High School. Then nothing felt the same ever again. Somehow we were so disoriented that even when we reached President Kennedy's stated goal of stepping onto the moon our joy was too corrupted by the Vietnam War and other stupidities to be fully savored. Though many of us take pride in the activism that helped end apartheid, create black studies and women studies programs in our universities and finally end the killing in " Nam" our innate optimism had been badly bruised. Raising our families and working to elect our first African-American President have been great adventures and very worthy efforts. However, no opportunity has presented itself to me, us, California or our beloved USA that is as positively thrilling as working together to Elect Jessica to be Our Representative! Her unique combination of life experience, ( working for peace in an active war zone), helping forge and implement policy for our government, working to help elect our first woman President, hiking the entire John Muir Trail, powered by her serious commitment to listen, then act bravely to implement wise and just policies make her our best hope. I've known Jess all her life and know her character, integrity and courage to be truly exemplary. Yes , she is very well educated ( Masters from Princeton) and she is quick witted with a sharp sense of humor, But here's the thing; None of these resume items would mean a thing if she did not have the heart of a lioness ! They do all the hard work in the wild, you know! Jessica is ambitious and she is relentless but , just like that young mother lioness, it's not for her own ego gratification that she's fighting. No it's for the whole pride, and the young ones, and to protect and honor the elders! I am totally all in on Jessica's team and I invite you to join the most meaningful, joy filled ride of your life. John "Rocky" Best-Jarvis”
