Hi folks, my name is Sherry Shipley and I am running for the District 4 Congressional seat currently held by Todd Rokita.
I will be a leader in Congress who will stand for what is right. I am a political outsider who will fight for families. I will fight for getting good paying jobs for the middle class. I will defend Hoosier youth and their right to a quality, affordable education. I will advocate for women and family-friendly policies that empower families to prosper. I will be a voice for the voiceless. No matter your beliefs, I will listen to you, and I will always be ready to serve. This campaign is fighting for the greater good of all Hoosiers, and that is why I want to be your next US Representative for Indiana’s 4th Congressional district. I want to tell you a bit about my background and let you get to know me a little better. I am a Hoosier native, born and raised in Cass County. I graduated from Pioneer High School (Hail to you our mighty Panthers), where I received an outstanding public education from great teachers. I went on and earned a Bachelors’ degree in English, a Masters’ degree in Educational Media and Technology, and a PhD in Industrial Technology Management from Indiana State University (Go Trees!).
I am currently a Dean at Ivy Tech Community College Lafayette, where I oversee the Schools of Business, Computing and Informatics, Education, and Public and Social Services. I am married, have 2 children and became an empty nester last fall. My husband of 30 years is a retired power plant operator and supervisor and now works part time for the Tippecanoe County Parks Department.
I am a first generation college student. My mom, dad, and step-dad were Teamsters, my husband worked to bring in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) to his workplace, and I was a local National Education Association (NEA) president, early in my professional career.
Just to share a few of my other activities, I am a member of Central Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, past president of Jefferson High School Booster Club (the oldest athletic booster club in Indiana) and a United Way Born Learning volunteer.
My ultimate goal is for you to hire me in November, 2018 to represent District 4 Hoosiers in the US Congress.
Thank you for your support, and I look forward to representing all Hoosiers during this campaign.
