Why you should support Danner Kline

He did the impossible in Alabama politics once before. He’s ready to do it again.

Thirteen years ago he began the Free The Hops movement, a grassroots organization to reform Prohibition-era beer laws in this state. Most people thought he was crazy. Most people said it could never be done. He proved most people wrong.

Today, thanks to Free The Hops, you can buy craft beer in any grocery store in Alabama. Today, thanks to Danner Kline’s leadership, you can visit dozens of craft breweries across the state.

Overcoming the Odds

Groups who opposed alcohol on religious grounds had a strong lobby in the state capital and a long track record of defeating pro-alcohol legislation. Industry groups with big money to give to politicians opposed the effort because it risked upsetting a profitable status quo.

But the Free The Hops movement kept organizing and fighting and eventually they succeeded in reforming several laws. They effectively legalized the craft brewing industry in the state.

When the movement began, there was not a single brewery in Alabama. Today, there are more than 25 of them (and more in planning), with an economic impact of hundreds of millions of dollars every year.

Achieving the Impossible

Success with Free The Hops gave Danner an appetite for taking on the impossible.

Now he’s ready to turn that positive energy towards a run for Alabama’s 6th Congressional district (which includes Bibb County, recently made famous in this year’s most popular podcast, “S-Town”).

The representative here is a Republican who won reelection last November with 75% of the vote.

Together, we can beat him.

We know you just laughed, shook your head, and whispered "good luck."

But you don't know what we know.

Knowledge to Win

We know from 2000 to 2010, the Democrats didn't even have a challenger on the ballot.

We know that in the last three elections, the Democratic candidates raised an average of $90,000 – about $1.9 million less than the Republican candidates.

We know that the last three Democratic candidates had zero institutional support.

We know that the last three Democrats were not able to generate grassroots support.

We know that Danner Kline knows how to rally support – grassroots and institutional.

Together. We Can Win.

Danner’s campaign will build a network of supporters to go door-to-door and explain how the current agenda in Congress directly harms citizens. They will explain his positive vision for making their health care more affordable, for bringing the next generation of jobs to our region, and for improving their public schools instead of robbing them in the name of "school choice.”

Grassroots donors recently helped drive huge swings towards Democratic candidates in districts previously thought safe for Republicans. We can take this momentum and reach the finish line in Alabama’s 6th district.

This is our moment. But the impossible in Alabama politics cannot be accomplished alone. We need your help.

Helen Keller, a great Alabamian, once said “Alone we can do so little. Together we can do so much.”

Together. We can.

Small Donors For The Win

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated to this campaign so far. We are almost to the two-week mark since I announced, and we've raised $21,450 via my Crowdpac page: https://www.crowdpac.com/c/vot...

I'm an outsider to the political establishment who had no institutional support when I launched the campaign. Maybe they'll come around as we prove we can win this thing. This is a true grassroots campaign driven by the passion of people who are ready for a Representative in the 6th district who values their health, safety, and future over ideology and party.

The total number of Crowdpac donors so far is 236, which means the average donation is less than $100. I'm proud that regular folks are getting this thing off the ground.

In contrast, during the 2016 election cycle my opponent raised 84% of his support from big money donors averaging over $1,500 each.

His top 5 donors alone accounted for $131,650. Most Democratic Congressional candidates in Alabama only dream of raising that much for their entire campaign, much less from only 5 sources. Those donors were:

1 Qualico Steel - $31,200

2 KyKenKee - $27,000

3 McKinney Capital - $27,000

4 Southern Company - $24,450

5 Blue Cross/Blue Shield - $22,000

(KyKenKee should ring a bell for anyone who listened to S-Town.)

When you see what the establishment has at their disposal, you understand how important it is for grassroots donors to make sure insurgent candidates can compete.

If you've already contributed to the campaign, thank you. I'd be honored if you could add a few more dollars to fight this big money influence. If you haven't given yet, now would be a great time to get in the game and help us defeat Palmer. We can do it with your help.

10 Days In

Crowdpac supporters,

I cannot thank you enough for having faith in me and helping get this campaign off the ground. You are the reason I am a serious challenger to Gary Palmer.

Several folks receiving this just donated today, in the wake of the House vote on the AHCA.

I was sincerely shocked they held the vote at all. It was political suicide. They apparently felt it was their last, best chance to follow through with years of promises to repeal Obamacare. But in doing so, they are ripping health coverage away from tens of thousands of people and making what's left terrible for the rest of us.

I still can't believe they actually voted for it.

It takes away protections for pre-existing conditions. And rips Medicaid coverage from millions of people. And gives employers the option to re-impose limits on coverage that were eliminated by the Affordable Care Act.

This bill is pure, unadulterated awfulness, and they celebrated its passage by cracking some beers and toasting their "success."

They will all look back on this day and wonder what in the world they were thinking.

We can make sure of it.

If you donated last week and found some money in the couch cushions in the last couple days, another few bucks would be appreciated. This is a long, long road and the costs are considerable.

Regardless of any extra couch cushion change, your help in getting things to this point is greatly appreciated.

Best wishes,
Danner
