I would like nothing more than to have you help support my fantastic wife's election for City Council in Palm Springs 2017. Christy is a dedicated servant to the community and will diligently represent the residents of our great city.  Christy's spotless track record for protecting the interests of many of society's forgotten members has molded her appreciation for the tremendous responsibility that is a being a city council member and the enormous impact the decisions of the city council have on our community.  Please help support her election by making a donation today.

Please see below excerpts from Christy's website which includes her resume and accomplishments followed by letter to the residents as to why she has decided to run now.

Christy is a Stanford Law graduate and is extremely well-qualified to lead and serve on the Palm Springs City Council, we look forward to your donation and are happy to answer any questions.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Neighbor,

From the first time I visited, I quickly realized Palm Springs truly is like no place else. My husband Adam and I chose to build our lives here, grow a family here, and work every day to move towards our vision of Palm Springs’ future, all while maintaining our connection to Palm Springs’ historic past. I love Palm Springs because of our close-knit community, the unique business opportunities, and the ability to accomplish real grassroots change and make a difference in local government and within our neighborhoods.

As someone with local work experience in a wide range of areas of the law, I understand how our laws and regulations affect different groups and our community as a whole. As someone making a living by working full time in Palm Springs, I bring true accountability and local work experience to Council. Working at a small business, I am data-driven and results-oriented. For example, in just over two years, I have obtained over $3,000,000 in federal Social Security Disability benefits and $3,000,000 in settlements and judgments for local residents, much of which has been invested back into our local economy.

As an attorney licensed to practice law by the State of California, I bring a higher level of ethics and transparency to city government. As a unique voice who brings diversity of thought and experience to the Council, I will bring fresh and new ideas to our city, which is required for a thriving democracy and successful future.

My vision for Palm Springs is to ensure that we build a Palm Springs that works for all residents. I have dedicated my career to fighting for residents as a local attorney and I have acted as a community leader on local issues, from LGBTQ rights to homelessness. I have decided to run for Palm Springs City Council to achieve real change for residents and obtain real results. I am running for office to serve as a representative for the people and to continue my commitment to serving the public interest. For those reasons, I ask for your support and your vote to elect Christy Holstege to Palm Springs City Council.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Christy Gilbert Holstege is an attorney and advocate based in Palm Springs. Christy works as a third-generation civil litigation attorney at her family's law practice, Gilbert & Bourke LLP, in Palm Springs. There, she practices civil litigation, public benefits, employment law, personal injury, elder law, domestic violence law, and housing law. Christy focuses her practice and pro bono efforts serving underserved communities of the Coachella Valley, including people with disabilities, LGBTQ people, homeless individuals, injured workers, personal injury victims, and victims of discrimination and violence.

Prior to joining Gilbert & Bourke, Christy earned a Stanford Law School-Stanford Public Interest Foundation Fellowship and funding to establish a legal aid clinic for domestic violence survivors within the Coachella Valley’s only domestic violence shelter, Shelter From The Storm. Christy has also represented farmworkers in civil rights, housing, and employment litigation at California Rural Legal Assistance in Coachella, California.

Christy earned a J.D. from Stanford Law School and a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology from UC Santa Barbara. Christy serves on the board of directors for Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest, Well in the Desert, Coachella Valley Housing Coalition, and Shadylane Mobilehome Park. She also serves on the Palm Springs Human Rights Commission and the Palm Springs Homelessness Task Force.

Christy is proud to live in Palm Springs, with her husband Adam Gilbert, who is a business owner and a third-generation resident of Palm Springs, and their dog Layla. They live in Sonora Sunrise in a home that their family has resided in for over 45 years.

Christy brings a background of legal and policy work at:

  • Stanford Community Law Clinic
  • Bay Area Legal Aid
  • Shelter From The Storm
  • Planned Parenthood
  • ACLU of San Diego and Imperial Counties
  • Center for Reproductive Rights
  • California Rural Legal Assistance

Christy has worked full time writing national, statewide, and local policy at the highest levels, including in Supreme Court and federal court litigation and policy advocacy with the Obama administration. However, in doing this work, Christy realized she missed grassroots representation of local issues, where she believe real change happens.

She has since dedicated her entire career to serving the public interest and obtaining real results for real people through grassroots advocacy.
