My name is Jake Cassidy, and I'm running as an Independent Progressive candidate for Congress in 2018 to represent Minnesota’s 2nd district.

When I was growing up, my Republican parents taught me to work hard to better myself and lift up those around me, to lend a hand to those in need, and to give back to the community when and where I could. In how they lived their lives, my parents demonstrated to me the virtue of both shared prosperity and sacrifice.

Change begins by showing leadership, and that's why my campaign will only accept money from individual donors. It's my commitment to voters that my campaign will focus on our shared values and the issues that matter most to our district.

My Core Values

Healthcare is a right for everyone in America, and for-profit health care is morally wrong. That's why I support a universal, single-payer health care system based on an improved and expanded Medicare program.

Many of the problems facing our country (income inequality, environmental destruction, corporate welfare, police militarism) share a common element - to provide for the continued growth and protection of capitalist profits for the few against the many, and this must change. There's a better way to organize our economy around democratic principles that empower workers to direct the enterprises in which they work, in partnership with the communities in which they operate. The benefits of such an economic organization are numerous for workers, the environment, and social stability.

Every child in America deserves the best education this country can provide and wealth, status, or where we live should never determine the quality of the education for our children. Guaranteeing equal education funding per student is crucial to student success and is the surest and easiest way to prevent future generations from living lives of poverty, sickness, and inequality.

Sixty years ago, a worker could have a decent quality of life with just a high school diploma, but that's not true anymore, and to get the education and training needed, most college students are forced to take on expensive student loans and graduate tens of thousands of dollars in debt. We must invest equally in the education and training of all Americans by publicly funding in-state college, trade and technical schools and working with learning institutions to create exciting new academic opportunities.

We have a choice: Continue with the status quo or come together to build something brand new.

I hope you will support this campaign as we work together to restore a political system that is responsive and belongs to the people.

“Jacob's campaign is about ending the ills of a government married to corporate money and the influence it pays for. By refusing big money donations, he is committing to our district. We the people deserve to have our tax dollars put to good use. Furthermore, the ultra-wealthy should be paying their fair share rather than dodging taxes through complex and unjust laws that they have pushed through via lobby money and bought politicians. We want strong public schools, healthy citizens, and the associated outcomes of innovation and robust communities. Jacob has my full support!”
