Why you should support Leah Phifer

Nearly 10 years ago, I raised my right hand and swore to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Protecting our country was, and still is, the greatest honor of my life. After the 2016 election, I struggled with the changes I saw in my community. People didn't speak to their family members for weeks. I wondered how to continue a career in national security when issues of housing, food and economic security plagued too many families in my community and the nation as a whole. After nearly a decade in positions throughout the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, I no longer felt I was serving my country in the best way possible.

I left the federal government to explore my role in building a stronger future for the people of my district. As I enter my next chapter of public service, I can't promise to be a typical politician, but I can promise to continue serving the public interest in the best way I know how. I can promise to use my skills and training to gather all the facts and use all resources at my disposal to come to the best solutions possible for the 8th district. By the end of this summer, I hope to find that I’m the best person to represent our diverse interests. Regardless of the outcome, I promise to be here, working alongside all of you to find the best way forward for our district and our country.

Around the 8th in 80 days

For too long, our communities have been sold solutions by politicians who didn't take the time to first understand the problem. So on June 16th, 2017, I set out on my motorcycle to spend 80 days listening to the residents of Minnesota's 8th district. If you're able, please meet me along the way or show me around your corner of our great district. Follow my journey at www.aroundthe8thin80days.com. Let's talk about what makes our district so unique and how we can find a way to heal, moving into the future together.

You can also follow the tour on Twitter (@aroundthe8th), Instagram (aroundthe8th), and Facebook (@aroundthe8thin80days).
