The Campaign to Recall Anthony Rendon is an entirely grassroots-led effort.  Our campaign was born out of the efforts of a group of activists and organizers who were involved in varying degrees with the efforts to support single-payer healthcare while SB 562 was working its way through the state legislature.  On Friday, June 23, Speaker Rendon made his surprise announcement that SB 562 was to be put on the shelf - just days after a slate of additional amendments were provided to the Speaker’s office by the bill’s lead authors and sponsors.

After a rally outside Speaker Rendon's office just days after his decision, we began discussing the possibility of launching a recall effort, which quickly led to the formation of a large, vibrant, and diverse coalition of citizens committed to seeing real change in Sacramento.  We received approval to circulate our recall petition on September 12, 2017, and have until February 20, 2018, to gather roughly 23,000 valid signatures in order to trigger a recall election.

We are strongly committed to coalition building in Southeast Los Angeles, and fostering broad-based reforms and increasing political engagement in the district.  In a district plagued by serious corruption and major environmental health injustice (from Exide to Paramount metal forges and pollution from the 710 freeway), we hope that our campaign can signal to politicians that enough is enough, and it is time to put people first - both in Southeast Los Angeles and throughout the state of California.

All funds will go to the Committee Supporting the Recall of Assemblymember Anthony Rendon, California FPPC No. 1398232.

“All these are ongoing Democratic Party accomplishments in the SouthEast Los Angeles Area: Environmental Racism, Worker Exploitation, Deportations, Lack of Healthcare, People Dying, Wage Slavery w/ low paying jobs, Students in Debt, Police Violence, Gentrification, Evictions, Dirty Industry, Money for the Rich... The people in the area deserve better...Anthony Rendon has failed to proactively address these issues on behalf of these communities he has been elected to represent. It is time to hold him accountable and demand proper representation in the South East. It is time to #RECALLRENDON”

  • Shannon Griffiths endorsed

“I endorse this because it has been too long that California and the U.S. in general has gone without single payer healthcare. We need to have Medicare for all because no one should go bankrupt from medical bills.”

  • Linda Bassett endorsed

“I support the recall of Assemblymember Anthony Rendon because when given a chance to walk the talk on which he campaigned -namely, that he was in support of a single payer healthcare - he balked. He gave excuses for why not. He did a 'bait and switch." This is an illegal practice in business - and it is an even worse practice for a politician! Don't use 'doublespeak.' Either you are for it - or against it -there is no in-between. People's lives and economic security are in the balance. Every day 5 people die due to healthcare issues. Who knows how many are in financial difficulty because of them. We are the 6th largest economy in the world and those less wealthy than us can afford healthcare for all. There is no reason other than the profits of insurance companies and drug companies profits stopping this. Anthony Rendon, if you are not here to lead - get out of the way! We will help to show you the door.”

  • Reed Heisley-Shellaby endorsed

“Anthony Rendon had his chance to pass the best healthcare bill to come to his table. Instead of voting to guarantee all Californians affordable, quality healthcare, he tabled the bill. He has taken hundreds of thousands of dollars from health insurance and pharmaceutical companies. He's working for them, not the people.”

  • Stanley M Sokolow endorsed

“I support recalling Assembly Speaker Rendon because no one person, not even a high-ranking politician, should be able to block the democratic process. Boo on Rendon for putting SB-562 in limbo. He must let it go into the legislative process for hearings, amendments, and an honest vote.”

  • Maureen Cruise RN endorsed

“People are suffering everyday...disability & death due to denials of care.... bankruptcy & home foreclosures due to medical debt. Devastated families because someone got sick. Do those in Sacramento actually represent us? Do they even think about the cruelty of the status quo? Does this matter to them? SB 562 is the litmus test...Democracy or plutocracy. We must get the corporatists out of the capitol....and elect some decent human beings in their places.”

  • Jan Bramlett endorsed

“I endorse SB562 (and therefore recalling Anthony Rendon who will not allow it to be debated in the Assembly) because OUR LIVES DEPEND ON IT! We need TRULY affordable and high-quality health care NOW!”

  • Reggie Meisler endorsed

“Legislators have a duty to work on legislation that people want. Especially when a super majority of people want it, and it's fundamental to the platform of your party.”

  • Wes King endorsed

“Leaders need to be accountable and be held to account for their actions. They must serve the people.”

  • Joseph Scardino endorsed

We are a GO! #RecallRendon

Our petition has been OFFICIALLY APPROVED by the California Secretary of State! We are now set to begin gathering signatures from registered voters in Assembly District 63.

We will knock on tens of thousands of doors, meet more of our neighbors, and stand together against Anthony Rendon’s unilateral move to block the legislative process.

While our campaign will focus on healthcare and SB 562, Rendon and the rest of the establishment politicians whom he leads have failed our district and California in multiple other ways: They have failed to fight polluters, failed to fight for election integrity, and failed to address rising rents, income inequality, and homelessness. As the figurehead of the failed political establishment, Rendon must go.

Ours is an all-volunteer campaign, but we need funds for flyers, technology, and a (small) campaign office. We assure you that your donation will go far. We are in this fight to the end.

Help us fight for the soul of California.

Recall Petition Design at S.O.S.

Last Monday, 14 August 2017, our Recall Petition Design was delivered to the CA Secretary of State (SOS)! SOS has 10 days to reply whether our Recall CA Speaker Rendon for Healthcare For All Petition is good to go or needs to be amended.

This means that as soon as early this next week, we will have 160 days to collect 23,000 signatures to send a powerful message to our corrupted political system that the CA Community will no longer stand lip-service; WE DEMAND ACTION on Single-Payer Healthcare For All in California independent of income or immigration status and other policies our community has needed for decades that most current electeds have not acted upon. Not only is it the right thing to do, but with Senate Bill 562 The Healthy CA Act, California would save $37 billion a year (conservatively) because we would stop paying for Private Insurance greed, so it is also the smart thing to do.

So, we just fundraised enough with our ¡Neighborhood Fiesta Fundraiser! to locally union print our Recall Petitions this week (on recycled paper), but we need to raise another $220 for ink + $60 for recycled paper to print in-house with volunteer labor (from our all-volunteer team) up to 4,000 flyers to accompany our recall petitions.

Can you donate right now to help us raise $280 asap for flyers for this week?

I hope this recall will be the beginning of transformation of the party into the party of the People once again.”
