The North Carolina Centrist Coalition is a grassroots organization that
believes that the divisiveness and polarization present in the political
systems in our state and country inhibit government from finding
comprehensive and collaborative solutions to our most pressing problems.

We believe in a moderate, common sense approach to
government and we reject the notion that either of the two major
political parties has a monopoly on good ideas.

We believe governing is best done through compromise and consensus. We believe in always putting leadership above partisanship.

The NC Centrist Coalition has two goals:

1. Build a broad, grassroots coalition of Independents, Republicans, and Democrats who are fed up with politics as usual.

  • We believe that North Carolina’s political history and its current
political climate make it especially apt for our message. A recent Public Policy Polling survey found that a plurality (31%) of North Carolinians identify as moderate, while 72% reported they are either somewhat liberal, moderate, or somewhat conservative.
  • Over the past decade, the number of voters registered as unaffiliated has grown, while the share of both Democratic and Republican registrations has declined. Today, unaffiliated voters make up around 30% of registered, the same amount that is registered as Republican.

2. Recruit and support independent, centrist-minded candidates for the North Carolina General Assembly.

  • While we recognize the large supermajorities held by one party in the NC House (15 seats) and Senate (11 seats), we believe that even a small number of these candidates in the General Assembly would provide a moderating effect and the possibility to create voting coalitions with both parties.
  • An independent candidate only needs to win 34% of the vote if they are in a three-way race with candidates from the other two parties.
  • In 2016, 45% of NC House districts and 30% of NC Senate districts only had one person on the ballot.

Help us build the resources we need to elect centrist candidates to the North Carolina General Assembly by contributing to our movement.

“I endorse the North Carolina Centrist Coalition because I believe both sides have something awesome to give us. It really gets exciting when you think of both sides working together to hammer out a solution. This currently does not exist in our government. I support Centrist because they demand collaboration.”

  • Jeffrey P. La Berdia endorsed

“I endorse the North Carolina Centrist Coalition because it returns government to more solutions for our Country without special interests, lobbyists, and pay-offs.”
