My name is Yolanda Brown and I am considering running for Congress in California’s 8th District.

As a native Californian and long time Joshua Tree resident, I understand our community’s needs and values.

We are the small desert and mountain communities of the Inland Empire, high desert, and Eastern Sierra, including Mt. Baldy, Victorville, Barstow and Bishop. We are multiple National Parks, Monuments and public lands including Joshua Tree, Big Bear, Death Valley, Mt. Whitney and Mammoth Lakes. We have some of the largest military training and combat centers in the country, located in Twentynine Palms, Mono County, and Fort Irwin.

Right now, our district is under attack by a disinterested rubber-stamp politician: Paul Cook. Cook is removing protections from our seniors and our most vulnerable neighbors, while privatizing our precious resources for corporate profit.

Cook voted to take healthcare away from 22 million Americans—including over 100,000 people in our district—even though he knew people would die as a result. After this irresponsible AHCA vote, I knew I had to do something.

I am not a politician, and I will bring a fresh voice and vision to the 8th District. It is time for us to stand up to protect our healthcare, our jobs, our veterans’ rights, and our natural resources, including fresh air and clean water for our children and grandchildren.

Having worked for 15 years as an administrator and manager at the County level in medical information services, I have years of experience working with others. I will bring those relationship-building skills to Congress where I will work with colleagues to ensure bipartisan legislation. I have also raised two sons and serve my community through my church and civic groups.

My family has three generations of military service—I am the mother, wife and daughter of veterans. When my husband Greg retired after 20 years in the Marine Corps, we were fortunate enough to remain in the desert we both love.

I now serve as Treasurer for the Morongo Basin Democratic Club and have been involved with the Indivisible movement. As a potential candidate, I will continue to advocate for social justice—from services for the homeless to treating immigrants and asylum-seekers with the dignity we all deserve.

I am asking you now to invest in our district's future. Please pledge to show your support for change in California's 8th District. You will not be charged until I officially declare as a candidate.

I will not be running.

Dear Friends,

Thank you so much for your kind endorsements, pledges of support and encouragement--these past weeks have been amazing!

Unfortunately, due to recent family developments, I am withdrawing my candidacy for Congress.

I am thrilled about the excitement and momentum being generated in the 8th District, and I truly believe we can flip it blue! I hope to put my support behind another strong candidate soon and look forward to sharing the news with you all when I do.

I greatly appreciate your support. Thanks again.

Best regards,

Yolanda Brown
