Statesboro born and the oldest of three siblings, Trent’s early years were spent traveling from Gastonia, NC to Athens, GA, finally returning to Statesboro in time for middle school. In 2001 with the help of the Pell Grant and the Hope Scholarship, Trent enrolled in business courses at Georgia Southern University where he met his wife, Samantha. During this time, he and his brother began construction work with a family company that covered the southern part of Georgia and South Carolina.

By the age of 22, Trent took up the hammer full time as project manager overseeing multiple production crews. It was there he learned to appreciate quality craftsmanship and the value of hard work from his diverse team members. Years later in 2008, newly married and with his first child on the way, the recession was forcing many construction companies to close their doors. At this time, Trent and his brother Matt purchased the company in an effort to keep the business alive, but by 2010, they realized that they had to make significant changes. They restructured the business model and renamed the company American Roofing. With the birth of his second child, Trent made the difficult decision of broadening their business and opening offices around the country as far as Phoenix, AZ, Cleveland, OH, and St. Louis, MO.

After completely reviving the business over the next 3 years, Trent decided to refocus the company’s efforts on the Southeast region, and in 2013, “Laboring for Love” was born out of him and his brother’s desire to give back to their hometown. Since its start they’ve built access ramps for civic organizations and veterans, free roofs for individuals in need, and partnered with Habitat for Humanity in the construction of multiple homes. They now enjoy donating labor and resources to Habit for Humanity without the need for fanfare, simply in an effort to provide service to members of the community that they love to see thrive.

Having rebuilt a business from the ground up Trent recognizes it's time for America to do the same. This time sending the voices of working class folks to Washington. Skills acquired from running his roofing company and values rooted in doing service to the community make Trent a resourceful and principled candidate for citizens of the 12th Congressional District of Georgia. Big money in politics has got to go and Trent is prepared to stand by the Democratic Party's bold, progressive platform. Here's a short list of what's driving #TeamTrent18:

- Citizen Voices United: People over Corporate Interests
- Medicare for All: Cost Efficient, Care Effective
- Education: Real Return on Investment
- A Strong Core Economy: Prosperity from the Middle Out
- Decriminalize Cannibis: End the War on Drugs, Heal the Nations Warriors
- Green America: Saving Energy and the Environment with Education and Employment

He wants to help insure that everyone in our district is represented by someone with compassion and integrity and by someone who is willing to stand up against those in Washington that do not stand for middle class Americans. He is bold, he is progressive, he is strong and he is willing to do what it takes to bring sanity back to Washington. I am proud to be his wife and I will be standing beside him as we move forward to bring this progression to our nation's capitol.””

“The reason I endorse Trent Nesmith is because the times I have had the opportunity to be around him he has truly expressed excitement about working for ALL PEOPLE. He also supports the things I value such as equal rights for all, single payer medical care, marijuana declassification and legalization, fair wages, education that focuses on trade and technical skills which doesn't require being in debt for the next 25 years, clean energy to help our environment, etc. He is from a blue collar background which I appreciate more than a career politician. Just the fact that he stepped up to the plate to represent when no one else has says it all. VOTE TRENT!”
