I’ve seen the value of stepping up my whole life. Both of my parents were FBI agents for over 20 years. When you have people like that as your role models, loyalty, bravery, and integrity become your way of life.

Until now, my way of serving has been through working to understand our planet and how we can live with it, including the dangerous parts like volcanoes and earthquakes. I give back by helping educate the next generation of scientists: young women and men from all backgrounds who will be the innovators, educators, and conservationists of the future.

I was moved to step out of my work boots and into the race for Congress because people like Donald Trump and Steve Knight are threatening that future by destroying some of the most basic things we all agree are important. Education, scientific research, disaster preparedness, critical infrastructure, national parks, and wildlife are all under assault.

Our economy thrives when we invest in our people and our planet. Trump and Knight both deny the science of climate change, which impacts our economy, health and way of life. Their attacks on immigrant families, women’s rights and health care coverage are offensive and damaging to the most vulnerable people in our society.

Trump and Knight are failing to deal with important issues like cybersecurity, senior care, and disability justice that will only become more important in the years ahead. I’m working to win the job of representing the people I care about and the places I love, because everyone should have a bright today and a brilliant tomorrow.

The Political Triathlon

Team Jess,

Running for Congress is like a triathlon. Our events are a bit different than the typical swimming, running, and biking, however!

I've been working hard in three areas:

1 - Voter Engagement - Most of my time is spent going to local schools, businesses, and homes to connect with our community on the ground level. I believe that a good Member of Congress needs to listen to her community and neighbors, so that's what I'm doing. On Saturday, I was honored to take part in the March For Our Lives events in Santa Clarita and in the Antelope Valley. The strength and courage of our country's future leaders is inspiring. We owe it to them to change Congress NOW.

2 - Policy Matters - I have been researching different legislative options for fixing what's wrong in our country. Since it's Women's History Month, I've examined what it will take to pass the Equal Rights Act, to eliminate the "Tampon Tax" or "Pink Tax," and to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates nationwide. I've sat down with doctors in our community to talk about telemedicine and the future of healthcare, and to learn about the benefits and shortfalls of the Affordable Care Act. We can and must prioritize women's health, reproductive rights, and equity of access, opportunity, and pay.

3 - Fundraising - If you're reading this email, you know that our campaign is grassroots all the way! Because that's the case, I need your help. This is the single biggest way you can make an impact and help me in the most difficult stage of the campaign. Just under 6,000 individuals have contributes to the campaign so far, and we have donors from all 50 states plus Washington, D.C. That's exactly what we need to unseat Steve Knight, who keeps a low profile and tries not to make waves. Let's amplify and spread the message even further! The support we have here at home is growing into a tsunami that Knight won't be able to ignore...in fact, it's going to sweep him away.

So please, donate and help me in this political triathlon. Every dollar you send is fuel that powers our important work here on the ground in California. This is our year, and I'm so glad you're on the team that will make the change we need!

Thank you,

March for our Lives

Hello Team Jess supporters,

Today is a powerful day. March for Our Lives is taking place across the country where the people are making their voices heard. Today we march. Change is here.

Everyone who knows Jess knows that every story, every stitch of information, everything she shares with others is consistent. She has described her experience as a high school student near Columbine and the impact it had on her. She has spoken in favor of gun reform long before the campaign. Her friends, her family, and her coworkers always mention how the words she uses on the campaign trail are the same words she has spoken to them in private. This is Jess. Jess is not afraid to speak truth to power.

Make a donation today and help us keep the campaign message going. We need to spread the message that it is time for change and that we have the power to demand the end to gun violence.

Watch as Jess speaks at a rally earlier today in the Antelope Valley as part of today's March for Our Lives: https://twitter.com/jessphoeni...

We've also updated the CrowdPac page with a video of Jess speaking about gun reform. We want to continue to speak out against gun violence and make our policy on gun reform a reality. Support the campaign and empower our message by donating today.

Thank you,

Carlos (Jess' husband)

Campaign Update from Carlos Phoenix (Jess' spouse)

Hello Jess Phoenix supporters!

I am so happy to share some great news with you. Yesterday, the Democratic Club of the High Desert of Antelope Valley hosted a debate with all 3 Democratic candidates. Jess did an amazing job! Her message resonated with so many people (watch here: http://bit.ly/2tU4L6z). We had literally dozens of people afterwards offering to host house parties, help phone bank, canvas, and just do clerical duties on their days off. We need every single one of them, too!

This support is what we need to win June 5th. For us to be able to do this, we need to have grassroots money to pay for reaching voters. We'll have to spend money to print campaign literature on recycled paper. That's the right thing to do, even if it costs a bit more. We also need to pay for the computer system to hold all the data, cover the cost of feeding our volunteers while they're working long hours, and hire more staff to allow us to grow our efforts. Our community believes in Jess’ message and I know you do too.

Right now, we are facing an end of the quarter financial push to  reach $200,000. Currently, we are at $115,357, which means we must raise $84,643 over the next 15 days. We have 2,682 contributions so far on CrowdPac and if we can all pitch in, the average ask would be $32. Some of you may be able to give more, some of you will give what you can and together, we will reach our goal.

Help us finish this quarter strong. We need to reach the $80,000 minimum to produce mailers to send to voters with information about Jess in English and Spanish. Help us get CrowdPac to $200,000 by the end of March. Give $32 (or more, or less) and share the CrowdPac with your friends on Twitter, Facebook, and via Email. Let’s rise together!

Thank you,

Carlos Phoenix (Jess’ husband)

Help us with our next video

I've added our video from last year to remind people of how we reached this point, and to ask for support with our next video.

Jess wants to do a video focusing on her work with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

We're at a pivotal point in our country. With the election of Donald Trump, it's become apparent that we've avoided hard conversations as a nation. From race, to domestic violence, to health care, we're a nation in need of public servants willing to be vocal on these difficult issues.

If everyone on this list gave $5, we could make this video and continue addressing the difficult issues of our time.

Any support would be much appreciated.

Welcome Danny!

Hey Folks,

Because of your support last month, we've been able to hire a new staff member and open a new office.

Welcome Danny!

We're looking to hire two more people to the team. Help us reach that goal. If every donor on our CrowdPac campaign gave $20, we can make these much needed hires.

Thanks for everything so far. Check out the new video on the page and meet our new Rock Star, Danny Ramirez!

Over 300 new contributions in 12 hours!

Hey everyone, a quick update.

Thanks to a massive support surge on Twitter last night, Jess has received over 300 contributions in 12 hours, with an average contribution of $25.

We must hit our $75,000 goal by the end of the month to move forward and it looks like we'll hit that goal!

If you can help pitch in and get us over that $75,000 mark, we can then start building our team by bringing on new hires and build a true movement. At $100,000, we can open a new office and bring on two new people.

Everyone, thank you for what you've done to date, this has been an inspiring campaign so far.

We have a few big things coming, and we really need to hit our $35,000 target in order to pay for the proper level of promotion.

New I F@*#ing Love Science Article

It's odd typing that headline for a Congressional race, but, then again, this is a different type of Congressional race.

We are trying to challenge the norms of politics in America. You all have shown your support already, and we are asking you to do it again. We have a professional video being edited now, and we need to raise money to complete (goal is stated on the CROWDPAC link).

If you believe in the message below, and you want to see a bold message on science, climate change, and fact-based policy solutions...please make another contribution to the campaign. If you can't give, please pass the CROWDPAC link along to five friends and ask them to give $10.

This is a critical moment for the campaign!

“If you hobble someone’s intellect – if you tell them to not use their brains – you are making people slaves to an ideology. In this case, the ideology is profit, profit, profit,” she tells us.

New Star Trek Videos

Hey Folks,

First of all, great day today. We passed $14k raised on CROWDPAC and we're close to 100 endorsements.

We need to hit $35k on this site by the end of November, so please contribute if you can, or pass this link around to friends who would be interested in Jess's message and mission.

Now, to Trek.

We started this particular fundraising drive with a video that included Jess and Tim Russ - Jess now correctly uses thumbs out on the Vulcan Salute.

We've fallen a bit behind in follow-up videos, so now you get THREE new pieces that have Jess chatting with Bob Picardo and John Billingsley (great banter in the videos).

Check out all of the Trek videos here.

We hope to do several more of these as the campaign moves forward, so we'll keep you informed as new ones come along.

Thanks for joining us on this journey, we couldn't have made it this far without you.

Peter Hinga (Campaign Manager)

p.s. shout out to Tanner and my buddy Darren for volunteering their time to put these videos together - this campaign is a solid group effort.

It is time for change

Progressive candidates have won or are leading in all 60 top targeted races tonight.

In VA, Danica Roem, 33, became the first openly transgender person ever elected in the commonwealth. She did so by defeating the author of legislation that targeting transgender citizens.

The country is ready for candidates of change, candidates like Jess.

I know you have helped before, but if you can, please help again. We need your support to keep this campaign moving forward.

If you can't contribute, please watch Jess's video on gun violence, and if you agree with her message, share with your community.

We need your help. As tonight made clear, the country is ready for bold new leadership - help us get Jess's message out so voters can hear her voice.
