I’ve seen the value of stepping up my whole life. Both of my parents were FBI agents for over 20 years. When you have people like that as your role models, loyalty, bravery, and integrity become your way of life.

Until now, my way of serving has been through working to understand our planet and how we can live with it, including the dangerous parts like volcanoes and earthquakes. I give back by helping educate the next generation of scientists: young women and men from all backgrounds who will be the innovators, educators, and conservationists of the future.

I was moved to step out of my work boots and into the race for Congress because people like Donald Trump and Steve Knight are threatening that future by destroying some of the most basic things we all agree are important. Education, scientific research, disaster preparedness, critical infrastructure, national parks, and wildlife are all under assault.

Our economy thrives when we invest in our people and our planet. Trump and Knight both deny the science of climate change, which impacts our economy, health and way of life. Their attacks on immigrant families, women’s rights and health care coverage are offensive and damaging to the most vulnerable people in our society.

Trump and Knight are failing to deal with important issues like cybersecurity, senior care, and disability justice that will only become more important in the years ahead. I’m working to win the job of representing the people I care about and the places I love, because everyone should have a bright today and a brilliant tomorrow.

Campaign Update from Carlos Phoenix (Jess' spouse)

Hello Jess Phoenix supporters!

I am so happy to share some great news with you. Yesterday, the Democratic Club of the High Desert of Antelope Valley hosted a debate with all 3 Democratic candidates. Jess did an amazing job! Her message resonated with so many people (watch here: http://bit.ly/2tU4L6z). We had literally dozens of people afterwards offering to host house parties, help phone bank, canvas, and just do clerical duties on their days off. We need every single one of them, too!

This support is what we need to win June 5th. For us to be able to do this, we need to have grassroots money to pay for reaching voters. We'll have to spend money to print campaign literature on recycled paper. That's the right thing to do, even if it costs a bit more. We also need to pay for the computer system to hold all the data, cover the cost of feeding our volunteers while they're working long hours, and hire more staff to allow us to grow our efforts. Our community believes in Jess’ message and I know you do too.

Right now, we are facing an end of the quarter financial push to  reach $200,000. Currently, we are at $115,357, which means we must raise $84,643 over the next 15 days. We have 2,682 contributions so far on CrowdPac and if we can all pitch in, the average ask would be $32. Some of you may be able to give more, some of you will give what you can and together, we will reach our goal.

Help us finish this quarter strong. We need to reach the $80,000 minimum to produce mailers to send to voters with information about Jess in English and Spanish. Help us get CrowdPac to $200,000 by the end of March. Give $32 (or more, or less) and share the CrowdPac with your friends on Twitter, Facebook, and via Email. Let’s rise together!

Thank you,

Carlos Phoenix (Jess’ husband)
