This past election has stirred me to action. Our elected officials have not fixed nor repealed/replaced the Affordable Care Act (ACA). There’s frustration on many fronts including:

  • Taxes
  • Public lands
  • Immigration reform
  • Federal appointees and wasteful use of taxpayer money.

Second Amendment Rights

I support 2nd Amendment rights, own guns, and have a concealed carry permit. Should everyone have the unlimited right to own and transport guns for any purpose (#LasVegas)? Rob Bishop’s current gun bill loosens gun restrictions and background checks, and reclassifies armor-piercing bullets--despite the danger this poses to our police force.

Constituents First

The incumbent, Rob Bishop, has consistently voted along party lines for bills that may not represent the voices of his constituents (i.e., public lands, net privacy). We need more representatives in congress who put people first--not industry and special interests, who appropriately represent their constituents, and negotiate across party lines to improve our laws while respecting states’ and peoples’ rights.

Facts Not Politics

I value public and higher education, evidence-based solutions and regulations, appropriate use of technologies, net neutrality, and privacy protections. As a researcher and statistician, I value the contributions of science and evidence that shows energy use is influencing climate change. Addressing climate change and the environment should be viewed as a conservative cause--just look at recent costs of hurricane cleanup as well as cost savings and jobs creation through renewable energy sources--a market the US should be leading!

Utah’s Beautiful Lands

Given my love for our beautiful state and our country's great outdoors, I believe we need to protect public lands while ensuring land use options that promote recreational use, environmentally-friendly energy development, and resource management that honors the needs of our citizens and residents, including Native peoples. We also need to honor treaties with tribes as we consider land use.

Immigration Reform

Should we betray promises to those brought here as children who trusted the government in applying for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)? I think not. However, we clearly need to secure our borders, ensure an adequately-staffed workforce, and address immigration reform.

Equal Protection Under the Law

As stated in the 14th amendment, I strongly believe all people in the US should be assured “equal protection of the laws,” regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, disability, or socioeconomic status. As an educator and parent of children with disabilities, I am a strong advocate for children and adults with disabilities.

My Story and My Dreams for Utah

I am a mathematics educator, small business owner, and mobile app developer. As a wife, mother and grandmother, we raised two biological children and two children with special needs adopted from the state of Utah. Additionally, my husband has three children, and we have ten grandchildren. After 33 years in Logan where I retired as Mathematics faculty at Utah State University, we recently moved to Park City so I could work with the Utah State Board of Education. In 2017, I founded a small business with a colleague to develop mobile apps while I campaign for office. My husband, Val, retired in 2005 after 34 years at ATK (previously Morton Thiokol) in northern Utah.

I am fiscally conservative and socially more libertarian-minded. I support the US constitution, and I believe that “We, the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, [should strive to] establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.” To me, this means encouraging active participation in the economic, political, and social fabric of our great nation while honoring each person’s worth, autonomy, contributions, and needs.

On my way!

I've hit $1,000 in pledged campaign contributions. Thanks to those who provided early support! I'm asking for everyone's help to reach $5,000, at which point the FEC requires that I officially register as a candidate! On my way to running against Rob Bishop, Utah's Congressional District 1!
