"In Brooklyn, my neighbors are struggling with rising rents, which are devastating our communities.

In Washington, the ideals of our country are being torn to shreds by a White House bent on creating an America we don’t recognize.

Both at home and in D.C., we need new and daring approaches to our problems.

We can no longer afford to be passive observers. It’s time for us to do the right thing."

-Adem Bunkeddeko

Adem Bunkeddeko is running for Congress in New York’s Ninth Congressional District, continuing to pay forward the sacrifices his parents, Ugandan war refugees, made for him growing up in New York.

Adem’s career has been one of service to Brooklyn. He started out as a grassroots organizer, knocking on doors and collecting petitions for candidates and causes that made a difference in the lives of working people in Flatbush. As a leadership fellow at the Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, he helped create a support network to improve the educational and social outcomes of low-income families in Central Brooklyn. At the Empire State Development Corporation, Adem managed public-private partnerships designed to revitalize underserved communities throughout Brooklyn.

For the last five years, Adem has served on Brooklyn Community Board #8 (covering Prospect Heights, Crown Heights, and Weeksville) and, until recently, was the associate director for business initiatives at Brooklyn Community Services.

A product of the New York City public school system, Adem was fortunate enough to earn scholarships to attend both boarding school and college. Adem is one of the first members of his family to graduate from college and earn a graduate degree. He received a B.A. from Haverford College, where he studied Political Science and Philosophy, and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
