Official campaign website: www.paulmartinforcongress.com

I am entering the race for United States House of Representatives in California's 48th District because Dana Rohrabacher is a liability our nation, and our district. He ran on a platform of term limits, 30 years ago. Now he wants his 16 term. He has closer ties to Russia than any other United States elected official, earning him the title in Russia as "Putin's Favorite Congressman." He's currently being investigated by the Senate, the House, and Robert Mueller's Special Counsel.

There is no question that we can do better.

We can do better because Congress is ineffective, with a current approval rating of 13%, according to Gallup polling. Voters are looking for authentic leaders, versus career politicians.

We need to do better because the good people of our district are working harder than ever, for far too little.

We will do better because strong leadership unites. It doesn't divide. As President Reagan said, “Teach tolerance and denounce racism, anti-Semitism, and all ethnic or religious bigotry wherever they exist as unacceptable evils.”

We must do better because future generations depend on us.

Here is a brief summary of some of my priorities:

National Security

I will ensure we never relent in the effort to destroy ISIS. I will work to put an end to Russia’s quest to weaken our sacred democracy through cyber warfare and insure national security is country's highest priority.

 Jobs

According to the Public Policy Institute of California and Stanford University, over 25% of OC kids live in families that are not able to make ends meet. Housing costs prohibit getting ahead. I will work with state and local government, and large and small capital businesses, to attract more high paying jobs.

Healthcare

Healthcare should not be a partisan issue. I would work toward a path forward for the nation, as emphasized by Governor Kasich: patient-centered care, choices, market competition, decentralized decision-making, higher quality, respect for individuals and an end to Obamacare’s big government interference.

Lifting Up Most Vulnerable Americans

I will make sure Republicans become known again as champions for the marginalized — I don’t believe only one party should be known as the party that fights for human rights, civil rights, and social justice.

Education

I will advocate on behalf of fair pay for our teachers. I believe that if you’re giving your life to educating and mentoring our children, you should at least be able to afford to live in our district.

Gun Safety

Working to prevent gun violence should not be a left vs. right issue. I will work for gun safety and to make sure those with mental illness are prevented from acquiring firearms, because I believe we must protect the innocent from more senseless gun violence.

Mental Illness and Addiction

I will address mental illness aggressively. I will work to increase the availability of health care, expanding housing options and investing in services that restore health. Those suffering with addiction should be given the help to reclaim their lives. My plan will be to prevent problems before they start, by new methods of educating young people about the dangers of drug abuse

Environment

District 48 is comprised of 40 miles of sacred coastline. Our beaches are our pride and joy. Regardless of one's view on the role of human activity in global warming, we can all agree that clean water, clean air, preserving our natural habitat is in our own best interest, and those of future generations. We must do all we can to maintain the cleanest environment possible.

In order to change, we need fresh leadership.

A brief summary of my background.

I grew up on a 5-acre ranch in Anaheim Hills. Hard work was a given. My mother immigrated from Italy with her family. Dad always talked about personal responsibility — “If you want to get something done, you roll up your sleeves and do it.”

So, I put myself through college, the first in my family to do so. I earned a bachelor's degree from UCLA. I then earned a master's degree from Biola University. Both of my degrees were in philosophical ethics — the formal study of right action.

I’ve had a vibrant career. I’ve represented business owners and landlords for one of Orange County’s largest commercial real estate firms. I held executive roles in music publishing companies, where I traveled the world extensively, including a two-year work assignment in London, UK.

Later, devoted myself to helping better our community. I served as Executive Director for an international Christian organization that mentors youth on the value of integrity, and giving back to others. I helped in our county to end chronic homelessness, by serving in an executive role for one of our largest homelessness prevention agencies.

I live in Costa Mesa with my wife, Gina. We have 5 children — one college graduate, one in college, and three in high school.

The New Paul Martin For Congress Website Is Live!

Hi all.

It's been a blur. And the momentum is unreal. Voters certainly want change, and the message of a centrist Republican is resonating more than I ever imagined, both locally and nationally.

So...

1. We filed with the Federal Elections Commission last week. We are now an official political campaign.

2. We launched our campaign website today.

3. We are preparing for a number of fundraising events in homes in Newport Beach over the next three weeks.

4. We are close to bringing in a Campaign Strategist/Professional who will direct us over the next few months.

Here's what you can do now.

  • 1. Visit the new website and check it out!: www.paulmartinforcongress.com
  • 2. Join by simply clicking the Facebook or Twitter button (or you could manually add your email and name).
  • 3. Share. You will immediately be logged in. From there you can share pages, posts, issues, etc.

With a website that is far more comprehensive than the CrowdPac site, we need to share and let everyone know.

We are just getting started, and I'm so grateful to each of you for believing in me — your support got us here!

Critical Moment — Please Read

Happy new year!

When I entered this campaign in October there were 7 Democrats running against the 15-term incumbent, Dana Rohrabacher.

Today there are 12 Democrats in the race. Yes, TWELVE.

Why?

First, Democrats did very well in the November elections and in Alabama, a very "red" state. Nationally, Democrats think they can win. In addition, Rohrabacher’s local unpopularity only grows based largely on new investigations by the U.S. Senate, U.S. House and Robert Mueller into alleged unethical behavior

The Cook Political Report now calls our race a “toss-up.”

This is all GREAT news for our campaign and very bad news for the Democrats. Because 60% of registered voters in our district are Republican. Moreover, our race is a “top two” primary. That just means that regardless of party, the two candidates with the most votes go to the midterm election in November.

In short, the Democrats are going to split the Democrat vote by 12 making it increasingly possible that I would be the one to come in second and run against Rohrabacher in the November midterm election.

We now have some of the most prominent GOP strategists in Washington D.C. contacting our campaign. They are prepared for a comprehensive media and grassroots launch on both the local and national levels. And I'm humbled to say that all of them are intrigued by our vision and ideas,  and the prospect of an outsider "raging centrist" Republican challenging a 30-year career political insider.

But we MUST reach our goal this week of raising $1,800. This will allow for us to immediately do the following:

  • 1. Register our campaign with the Federal Elections Commission
  • 2. Launch our official campaign website
  • 3. Host our first fundraising event later this month

I can assure you with full confidence that with these financial resources, this campaign will hit a national pitch.

But we first require this last infusion of capital.

Any amount brings us closer.

Just click this link to give now: https://www.crowdpac.com/contr...

Feel free to forward this email to friends. We are so close! Together, we can do this!

Thank you for your ongoing support!

"The Cook Political Report says the perennially "safe" seat is now "a toss-up." (Los Angeles Times)

"A week or so ago I sat down with Paul Martin... And a big part of his strategy (a smart part of his strategy) is to have so many Democrat entrants that they cancel one another out. And, truth be told, that may well happen." (Political writer Jeff Pearlman)

"Others have expressed concern that a big field of Democrats – there are seven challenging Rohrabacher – could split the vote and allow two Republicans to advance out of the top-two primary. And some worry that money will be spent in intra-party primary battles rather than against Republicans in November." (Orange County Register)

A grueling and positive 24 hours...

Hi all!

Just a quick note to say I got off the phone a few minutes ago with one of the top GOP consultants in the country.

Such calls are becoming more frequent. And the consistent message is positive. Bottom line from the experts: This race is going to be close for a number of reasons so prepare for a very active 2018.

Of course, I am the only moderate Republican in a race competing against a highly unpopular incumbent, and a large group of Democrats. Remember, the June 5th primary is based on total votes. So whether Republican or Democrat, the top two get to the November election.

Next week we are going to be unveiling some new plans related to the realize of our new campaign site, and some larger fundraising initiatives. Most will center on our need to pivot to a concerted fundraising campaign.

If you're following the campaign in Alabama and the GOP endorsement of Roy Moore, you know countless Republican voters are looking for rational, common sense leaders.

They've had enough of crazy.

So have I.

Thanks for your ongoing support!

Rohrabacher and Sharing...

Hi all!

So much to report but want to keep this brief.

Today's news about Michael Flynn's plea deal with Mueller's investigation is very bad news for my opponent, Dana Rohrabacher.

When I got in the race, I imagined this Russia investigation might implicate my opponent; I never imagined it would come so soon.

THIS article is the latest to highlight his problems. Here's just a summary:

"...Mueller is seeking to interview the congressman about his meeting with Flynn and Flynn Jr., while both the F.B.I. and the Senate Intelligence Committee want to hear Rohrabacher’s account of the meeting with Assange. Meanwhile, Rohrabacher’s fellow G.O.P. lawmakers have moved to limit his power."

If only more voters here knew that their Congressman was part of this, I know they'd be paying more attention to the race.

I'm getting more and more people asking how they can help. Besides donations, the best way to help is to SHARE MY FACEBOOKS POSTS and CLICK THE SHARE BUTTON ON CROWDPACK.

Think about the time it takes me to go knock on doors. While this has benefits in terms of hearing voters, sharing puts me, my platform, etc. right in front of thousands of people, with just a click of a button.

With a 15-term Congressman on the far right, and billionaires and corporate executives on the left, it's going to take every bit of effort to get our message out.

But we can do it!

Thanks for your continued support!

Come to our first public event this Wednesday!

Hi all:

Lots to report! All signs are pointing to a very competitive primary on June 5th.

Today I will speak with another leading national GOP influencer who has learned of our campaign, and believes that our message to bring effectiveness to Washington D.C. and sane representation to our district is very compelling.

For those of you who are local, do come to our first public event this Wednesday evening at Social in Costa Mesa. It would be great if there was standing room only, and it looks like it might be heading that way. We expect local press to be attendance.

Can you also open the link in Facebook and hit the "share" button to help spread the word?

One thing is as clear as anything else to me: voters in this district are deeply resonating with a message based in building unity, versus the torch-and-burn politics that has paralyzed Congress.

It's all very exciting!

Here's the link and hope to see you on Wednesday.

P.S. As you might know, me and my Democrat friend, Kristen Howerton started a Podcast last month called WhyPartisan. In this week's issue, Kristen interviews me on my run for Congress. You can listen to it here:

21 days later...

Hi all:

Today there are high-level national Republican leaders who have identified our campaign, and are offering invaluable support.

They know that, with 7 Democrats in the race, that we're well positioned to compete against highly unpopular Congressman Dana Rohrabacher.

And they are thrilled with the prospect of fresh and creative Forward-Thinking Republicans in Congress.

But we have lots of work to do!

  • Specifically, we need to raise $4,000 now. Can you help share this campaign with a potential donor, or make a personal introduction? Every dollar counts!
  • As for awareness, whenever you can share one of my Facebook posts (I post daily) it's a tremendous and cost effective method to spread the word. The FB campaign page is HERE.

I think more and more about a paradox — how so many are unhappy with government, and yet how few take our democratic process seriously by getting involved in process.

I know all of you are different.

If I am elected, I will remain a leader with the guts to speak my mind, and advocate for what best serves the people, not politicians.

Thank you for all that you're doing to help spread our important message!

Why I don't care...

Hi friends.

It has been just under two weeks since we took this campaign public. And it hard to express the degree of buy-in we are getting!

Daily, I am being approached by voters who resonate with a message that is not left vs. right, but one that is based in addressing real problems, regardless of party positions.

Take gun violence, traditionally a Democrat issue. I've had at least a dozen people tell me "Paul, you are going to alienate and anger people on the right."

I don't care.

My loyalty will always be to the people first. So I always will always stand for what is right, even if I offend those in my party.

On the firearms/mental health, our leaders must have the same resolve to save lives as they do against terrorism.

When innocent people are being murdered, regardless of the cause, it's the job of our elected representatives to do whatever it takes to protect the people.

In fact, that's the reason our founders came up with the word representatives in the first place!

On that note, we released our first one-minute video today. As a grassroots campaign, this will be the primary method used until we get the funding needed. You can view it HERE

How can you help? The best way is to SHARE the campaign page, my Facebook posts, etc. — help by spreading the word!

With the other candidates raising record money, the way we can compete is with grassroots efforts.

Thank you for your support!

Need to $4,000 to make it official!

Hi all.

So much is happening and in five days our campaign has been in four large newspapers! We are 20% to our $5,000 goal needed to formalize the campaign. We have over 20 endorsements!

I am being invited to meet larger donors. But we must first register with the Federal Election Committee.

To do so we need $4,000 now!

You can help by going to the CrowdPac page and clicking on the "share" buttons. You could write in your own comments if you'd like.

You could also go copy and paste the CrowdPac URL and send via email, text, or message to friends and family.

It's going to be grassroots work like this that is going to make this campaign unique, I have no doubt.

Thank you for all that you're doing to help.

Great article in LA Times today!

Hi all:

We went official today on social media, and the LA Times article was published an hour later. I was crossing my fingers that they would land at the same time!

I am pleased with the article — as you know, one never knows what will end up in print.

Off to a very strong start and, again, one of the best things you could do now is hit the share buttons here and repost on social media.

And, again, thanks so much for your support!

Getting Ready For A Big Day Tomorrow!

Well, I just did an interview with the LA Times. And tomorrow this site becomes public, which means it will show up in national search engines, and the others running, and the country, will learn of my candidacy.

I'm reminded today about the two frontrunners:

• One Republican named Dana Rohrabacher who ran almost 30 years ago on a platform of term limits. He is running again for his SIXTEENTH term. (And people wonder why they can't trust politicians?)

• One Democrat who is a billionaire (yes, with a B).

I wonder how the vast majority of people in District #48 can feel represented when those two are the frontrunners.

I never supported Bernie, but no doubt the billionaire class shouldn't be running our country.

Neither should a career politician.

Thank you for your support. It's so humbling.
