My name is Beej Das and it would be my honor to serve you as the next US Representative from the Third District of Massachusetts. My story is an evolving compilation of experiences, acquired knowledge, and good stable judgment from you.  In fact, it is you - my family, friends and fellow citizens – that inspire my story and compel me to run.

My parents both immigrated to America to build a better life for me. I was born in Woburn, Massachusetts in the early 1970's and raised in the Merrimack Valley. I am proud to say that my mother Mitra has been a professor at UMass Lowell for 45 years and co-founded the sociology department there. She's been a union member of the Massachusetts Teacher's Association since the early 1970s. Back then, women didn't have many protections or benefits at work; mom was back at work the third day after my birth. Needless to say, when daycare was an issue, I'd get a day at Coburn Hall in Lowell with mom.

I graduated from Pike in Andover, Brooks in North Andover, and attended UMass Lowell before graduating with my Political Science degree from Middlebury in Vermont. I worked at my dad Mukti's technology and engineering company in Lawrence during high school and college. It was then that I won a large contract for the United States Navy for advanced linguistic systems at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland; becoming the youngest person in history to do so. I was active as a volunteer in a few political campaigns, was the President of the Young Democrats, and worked with Planned Parenthood

After college, I worked at Fidelity Investments in Marlborough helping people with their 401k plans -- the same plans some in Congress want to drastically curtail. I earned my law degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and became the law clerk to Judge Benson Everett Legg of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland where I helped decide cases ranging from civil rights, affirmative action and discrimination, commercial disputes, intellectual property, to drugs and other serious criminal matters.

I returned to UMass Lowell to teach sociology of law classes upon my return to the Boston area, where I started a career at a leading technology law firm. I found the thrill of teaching young minds exhilarating, even as I taught three hour classes after a full day of working as a lawyer. After leaving the law firm, I became a hotel developer, first with Hilton Worldwide, then with my own company, Troca Hotels, in Tyngsboro Mass. I've worked hard to build our business, employing over 70 employees in the Third District at our iconic property, The Stonehedge Hotel & Spa, and dozens more outside it. When our hotel was shut down for a flood last year, we fought to keep all of our employees for the nearly six months we were closed; we paid full payroll to each and every employee during our reconstruction. Running a business isn't just a way to make a profit, it's an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of communities.

They call me a practical progressive. I believe government should not only provide for our well being but that it should do so efficiently. We pay too much in taxes for our (a) health care to be so complicated and expensive, (b) for our public education system to be so poorly funded, (c) our infrastructure to be crumbling, or (d) for our Veterans to be getting such a raw deal at the majority of VAs. Most importantly, we need to bring back strong economic growth by encouraging entrepreneurship, funding the education of the next generation of America's citizens, and getting to work on sensible legislation that improves the lives of our fellow Americans, instead of yelling at each other constantly. It's time for bipartisan progress towards a stronger, safer, and smarter America.

We keep electing the same people to Washington, and each year we are surprised by the ever increasing acrimony and stalemate. Politicians run every election cycle and tell us what we want to hear. It's time to try something new. I am asking for your support and vote, because I know that together, we can make our government work for us again.

“Beej is thoughtful, eloquent, highly knowledgable, and most importantly, a people person. He cares deeply about people and as a representative of the people he will work tirelessly to represent their voice!”

“Beej's hard-won business experience, sparkling wit, genuine concern for the well-being of those around him, and willingness to listen and learn, rather than lecture, are just what we need in the toxic environment of DC. I think of two great Democrats who would have been grateful to have Beej in Congress with them: Tip O'Neill and Robert F. Kennedy. Tip said, rightly, that all politics is local. Beej will be very effective in advocating for our district, but like Tip, he will not demonize those of us who may not share ALL of his views. RFK said "There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask why...I dream of things that never were, and ask, why not?" Beej and I have been friends for many years, and I know him to be fearless and inventive. Let's send him where he'll make a difference...”

“Beej has a vast background and is well equipped to take on this challenge. His understanding of the entrepreneurial, legal ramifications and previous exposure to the inner workings of DC make him a more than qualified candidate. A vote for Beej would actually account for something...”

“We support Beej Das for US representative from the Third District of MA because of his sheer grit, entrepreneurial spirit, and commitment to reach across the aisle to move forward thoughtfully on issues pertaining to job creation, incentives for small business, veterans affairs, education, and the opioid crisis. Beej will always put the needs of his constituents' front and center, advocating for what is right vs. what is politically right. He is honest, generous, a friend to all, has a deep commitment to community, and lends a helping hand whenever he is asked. For that, we are unwavering in our support and proud to stand with Beej all the way to Washington!”

  • Matt Daniels endorsed

“Commonsense solutions and solid progressive commitments.”

These are traits ingrained in one's self and are revealed when needed most. A person who can lead with substance.”
