I hope to be a candidate for the District Four Texas House of Representatives seat which serves the residents of Kaufman County and all of but the very west end of Henderson County.  Our campaign theme will be “Seeking Common Ground for Our Common Good.”

Like most of you, I am disappointed in the divisiveness which prevails in politics today.  Of course, political disagreements are nothing new.  But when we Americans, when we Texans, are at our best, we can disagree without being disagreeable. Over two thousand years ago a very wise leader warned his people about their disagreeableness.  He told them that “If you bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another.” You will find those words in the book of Galatians in the New Testament.  It probably won’t surprise to know that a preacher might look to the Scriptures for guidance.  Although the Apostle Paul wrote those words thousands of years ago, they sadly describe our political conversations today.  We spend so much of our time “biting and devouring one another” that we seldom find common ground on which we can make decisions for our common good.”

“Since Cathy and I moved to the Cedar Creek community in 1982, I have been blessed to work with people from all sides of political life to make our world a better place.  Over those 35 years, I have served on the boards of directors of fourteen different civic organizations, and been elected to chair eight of those groups.  I have learned that people from different political parties can work together for the good of all.  I hope to take that experience with me to Austin to discourage all the “biting and devouring” and encourage cooperation.  Legislators must work together more effectively for our common good. If that makes sense to you then I want to ask for your support.

I will file for a place on the ballot when 100 Texas House District 4 registered voters pledge $7.50 to help pay the $750 filling fee.  We have set up this account with Crowdpak.com, so that folks can help us kick off this campaign for the Democratic party primary in 2018.  Now I am going to say something you have probably never heard a candidate say.  Please don’t give more that seven dollars and fifty cents.  I don’t want rich folks to try to buy this campaign.  I want people like you and me who cannot afford to give a lot to know that if we each give a little, we can have an impact in Austin.

So please pledge $7.50 and allow your name to be posted on the website so we can see who is supporting this effort.  And if you are capable of giving more financial support, there will be plenty of opportunity to make larger donations once the campaign begins!  Thank you for your interest in working with us to seek common ground for our common good!

We need to: investing in education, not private prisons; providing a living wage; provide affordable health care to everyone and eliminate the current rationing of health care; protect our environment and the planet for future generations, and adequately fund family planning services. He wants Texas to "lead", not "follow on key social and economic issues. He is the right candidate to implement the legislative changes needed.”
