We won big in Virginia and Washington state. But there's no time to rest. We're already planning ahead for next year, and many state legislative chambers are within 1 to 4 seats of flipping (or holding) blue. Let's use this momentum to kickstart the states in 2018!

Your dollars will help us:

  • Double the number of races we support
  • Grow new teams of volunteers on the ground
  • Develop new training, education, and ways to share knowledge
  • Expand our online reach for recruitment and awareness
  • Improve our tech platforms and keep them free to use

The Sister District Project is a grassroots organization that seeks to harness the passion, creativity, and dollars from deeply blue areas and channel it to areas where Democrats aren’t fairly represented at the state level. We "sister" blue places with purple places to turn the map blue.

Since launching in the wake of the 2016 elections, the Sister District Project has grown to over 25,000 volunteers across the country. Our volunteers raised more than $350,000 in small-dollar cash donations directly for our candidates in 2017, plus another $350,000 in partnership with allied organizations. We made over 81,000 phone calls, wrote 40,000 postcards, knocked on 30,000 doors, and sent 185,000 text messages.

We’re developing partnerships on the national and local levels with Indivisible, Swing Left, Flippable, Adopt-a-State, MarchOn, Together We Will, Solidarity Sundays, along with countless other progressive organizations and local groups.

We’re also proud to be an organization founded and led by women, including women of color. Four out of five of us quit our jobs to be with Sister District full time.

We focus on state races because:

  • States are critical to securing fairly drawn districts and fighting back against gerrymandering and voter suppression
  • States are incubators of strong progressive policies and leaders
  • State level campaigns are often small and under-nourished—our volunteers' dollars and hard work can have an outsized impact

How we do it:

We implement national strategy (carefully vetted races, called “Sister Races”) through local action (volunteers organized into home district teams). It’s simple:

  • You sign up to be a volunteer with Sister District at our website, www.sisterdistrict.com.
  • We connect you with your home district team, which is led by volunteer District Captains.
  • We handpick a small number of Sister Races that are winnable (within 5 points in previous elections), strategic (will help flip/hold a legislative chamber), and have a great candidate.
  • You work together with your local team to fundraise, phonebank, postcard, textbank and, if you can, travel to the Sister Race community to knock on doors and get out the vote.

Our 2018 numbers are in!

In case you missed it - our 2018 numbers are in! Click here to take a look at The Sister District Project 2018 Impact Report.

We have counted every last text message and tallied last every phone call from 2018, and we were thrilled to see our volunteer impact double across nearly every metric last year! None of this would have been possible without your backing. Thank you for your support.

Together, we have built a powerful, year-round infrastructure of volunteers nationwide who are already on the ground doing the early, essential work to help Democrats win this year. But we need you to continue to invest in Sister District so we don’t lose any time in 2019.

Join our 2019 Crowdpac campaign by contributing today! In just two short years – after the 2020 census – congressional districts will be redrawn. That’s why we’re fighting for critical state legislative seats in 2019 and 2020 that will determine whether or not Democrats have a shot at fair districts over the next 10 years. Will you stick with us in 2019?

November 7, 2018

Just launched our 2019 Crowdpac campaign!

The election results are coming in, and one thing is clear - our hard work in 2018 is paying off. But with redistricting just three short years away, the stakes are even higher in 2019 and 2020. We have to keep the momentum going.

That's why we've launched a 2019 Crowdpac campaign to help The Sister District Project hit the ground running in 2019. But we need your help so that we can continue electing Democrats to critical state legislative seats and help ensure fair redistricting in 2021. Click here to help us launch our 2019 campaign!

If we want Democrats to have a fair shot at winning seats in Congress for the next 10 years, this is our last chance to win state races and make that possible. You can bet that Republicans are working hard to win these seats, so there’s no time to rest. Take action today!
