A Few Words About Me:

It has been my privilege to serve the legal community for more than 15 years. As a Paralegal I've learned the importance of progressive thinking. In 2015, while speaking at an annual scholarship gala, Judge L. Clifford Davis said, "don't give up because you are afraid to get started." Since then, I've preached that concept to my sons and I remind myself that those powerful words also apply to me. One of the most important lessons that I've learned is simple, KEEP GROWING.

I earned my CRP from the National Federation of Paralegals Association, ("NFPA"). That same year I took the certification exam administered by The National Association for Legal Professionals, ("NALS") and earned the designation of Accredited Legal Professional ("ALP Certification"). As a member of NFPA, the Dallas Area Paralegal Association, J. L. Turner Legal Association – Paralegal Section, NALS, the State Bar of Texas – Paralegal Division and the National Association of Bond Lawyers – Paralegal Division, I've earned the respect and trust of not only the global legal community, but the citizens we serve. In addition to staying in compliance with my Continuing Legal Education requirements, studying various aspects of law, working with attorneys and mentoring new paralegals and law students, respectively, I earned the distinguished honor of NFPA 2017 Paralegal of the Year.

Currently, I serve as Ethics and Professional Responsibility Coordinator for NFPA with a primary responsibility to delineate the principles for ethics and conduct to which every paralegal should aspire as described in NFPA's Model Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility ("Model Code") adopted in May 1993. I serve on the Board of Directors for DAPA's Ethics Board, and in November 2017 I was elected as Vice President/President Elect for J. L. Turner Legal Association, Paralegal Section.

Why This Election is Important:

For over 25 years, including the period before Dallas County redistricted this court, (formally Precinct 5-Place 1), like-minded individuals have held this office. Individuals who refuse to accept progression. This court's reputation, dating back to the early 1990's includes misinterpreting the law, misapplying the law, not judging on an impartial and unbiased basis, and not issuing fair judgement to those who appear before the court. If elected, I will be the first Democrat to serve our Precinct in more than 25 years, and if elected, I will be the first woman to ever serve in Precinct 2-Place 2.

I've always believed that being an elected official should take the initiative to identify problems and devise solutions. The role of the Justice of the Peace requires strong communication skills, knowledge and understanding of the law and applying the laws to the individual matter in an ethical and moral. I have a proven record throughout the State reflecting that I possess these skills. I understand the importance of treating each individual person as just that…an individual. If elected, you will find in me someone with a mind well-suited to the world of law, and the ability to inspire support staff to display the same integrity and morals as myself. You will find someone that not only knows that it takes a fair, impartial and compassionate person to serve our citizens, but also someone that will stand with you and try to figure out a solution together.

“Ms. Whitfield is an outstanding candidate for JP. She possesses incredible intellect, is hard-working and dedicated to service in the community. In the short amount of time I have known her, she has exhibited high standards of professionalism evidenced not only by her awards and appointments in the legal community, but also in the execution of her several duties as an excellent paralegal. She has a keen attention to detail, sound judgment and a strong sense of integrity, all of which will benefit the public office she is seeking. In sum, Ms. Whitfield is qualified to serve as JP and Precinct 2 would be fortunate to have her.”

We Did It!

TAKE A BOW.

With each your help and support we came out of this Dave and Goliath style campaign victoriously. We did this by making sure everyone we met felt how genuine and sincere our intentions are. It didn’t matter if they were young, old, big, small, short or tall. Every person we had the pleasure of spending a second with walked feeling that we were working for them.

I’m so proud to be a part of this history making dream team. Victoria Neave, Rhetta Bowers, Margaret O’Brien, Bill Gipson, II, the first African American man to be elected to serve as Constable in Precinct 2, and me, KaTina Whitfield, the first democrat elected to serve as Justice of the Peace in Precinct 2, the FIRST WOMAN EVER elected to serve in any public office in Precinct 2, and FIRST MINORITY EVER elected to serve in any public office in Precinct 2. This group has broken barriers and shattered the glass ceiling. And we’re just getting started.
