Thank you for visiting my CROWDPAC page, my name is Scott Huber and I’m your 2018 Chico City Council candidate. If you like what I stand for - I invite you to invest in my campaign, so that together we can build a more inclusive and responsive Chico City Council. With less than 10 days left until the election, mailing your contribution will arrive quicker and allow me to immediately utilize the funds for last minute marketing - kindly mail your donation to: Scott Huber for Chico City Council, PO Box 7543, Chico, Ca. 95927.

After serving on the Chico School board from 2002-2006, I’ve spent the last decade actively involved in protecting birds and their habitats, as President and Conservation Director of Altacal Audubon Society, and as the northern California regional representative to Audubon California.

Now I want to use my leadership skills to protect our community.

Chico is a special place, it’s what brought me here 38 years ago. I’m ready to help meet the challenges of keeping our community safe and thriving, and make sure that all opinions and solutions are heard.

That’s not happening under our current council majority. We need a City Council that encourages discourse, listens to concerns, deliberates responsibly, makes decisions openly and respects all of our citizens.

I’ll work to keep our citizens safe, our public places clean and our businesses thriving, while at the same time treating the less fortunate humanely.

Developing mutual respect between citizens and our police will avoid the type of tragedies we’ve seen in other communities and experienced right here in Chico, I’ll support the efforts of our police department to create more foot and bike patrols that help us humanize each other and lead to safer interactions.

Supplementing our police and fixing our infrastructure takes revenue. Right now, millions of dollars in taxable sales are being transacted without the city making a penny! I’ll work to see that commercial cannabis sales are responsibly regulated, away from schools, neighborhoods and retail establishments, so we can collect the hundreds of thousands of dollars in annual tax revenue that is currently being pocketed in under-the-table transactions.

Like most Chicoans, I understand the need to BALANCE growth with quality of life. The city’s general plan envisions ‘smart-growth’, vibrant neighborhoods where people not only live, but can walk or bike to work, schools, shopping and greenways. I’ll support well designed projects that grow Chico sustainably and maintain our agricultural and natural resources.

Getting the word out about my candidacy is not cheap, and it seems as though small-town politics has become a big-money game, but I believe that big donations create an opportunity for favoritism and biased decision making. While other candidates in this race may court a small number of contributors for big donations, I’m seeking a broad-base of small and medium sized donors to help me win. I won’t accept any individual donation over $500, and I’m grateful for any amount that you are able to contribute.

Balanced, responsible governance starts in small-towns and cities like Chico, and trickles-up to regional, state and national politics. Your support of my campaign plants the seed of inclusive and responsive leadership.

Thank you!

He has a deep passion for our community, and has dedicated much of his life to jumping in and taking action, instead of sitting on the sidelines wishing things were different. He is enthusiastic, motivated, optimistic and most importantly, fair. “I met Scott 15 years ago when he was serving on the CUSD School Board. Scott earned my respect because he always does his homework. He takes the time to research an issue, talk to all involved, and thoughtfully consider alternate viewpoints. He is a very well-rounded individual who can relate well with people from all facets of society. He will work for the economic vitality of Chico, while also serving as a compassionate voice for those who are struggling. Scott walks his talk, and is a "boots on the ground" person. He is kind, approachable, and will listen to his constituency.”

Please Help Elect a DOER to Chico City Council, not another spectator.

Your help will allow me to continue working hard to learn the job of a Chico City Councilmember by experiencing first-hand the issues I'll be voting on as your councilor.

To better understand the challenges involved in solving the homelessness issues in our community, I began by hitting-the-streets - living,  eating and sleeping among the unhoused for 48 hours. Wanting to see all sides, I also rode along with the Chico Police as they interacted with the homeless, walked Chico's retail core with our Downtown Ambassadors on their morning rounds and collected shopping carts with Community Watch volunteers.

To prepare for working on housing affordabilty challenges I invited a panel of eight local housing experts, including developers, housing advocates and local officials, and together with an audience of more than sixty we came up with a list of ten partial solutions to put into practice on this complex issue.

For the last four months I've attended sometimes five of more meetings a week, up to three a day, to better understand our cities finances, parks and infrastructure, and have met personally with our Police Chief, Public Works Director, Operations Director and Administrative Services Director.

But that's not nearly enough. In the coming months I plan to travel to Colorado to learn how legal, commercial cannabis sales impact similarly sized communities in that state. To develop strategies to lower Chico's crime rate I hope to visit Spokane, Washington to observe first hand the pros and cons of their Community Court system.

By proactively participating in the issues I'll be voting on, I hope to be able to better guide the town that we love once I am elected. All this research takes time and resources, and to get elected I need to be able to broadcast my message. Your contribution of any size can assure that a DOER joins our City Council in November. If you haven't contributed yet, I invite you to help the cause, If you've already donated - Thank You! -  please feel free to add to your original contribution up to the $500 limit.

Thank you,

Scott Huber
