My evolution started with being startled by what happened to Mike Brown, Eric Garner, Philando Castile, Alton Sterling and many other black men.  Police misconduct, and the criminal Justice system being slanted against people of color is what got me fired up and moving towards a life of activism.

That energy turned into a stint with the National Action Network (DC Chapter), a school year as a Mentor for Young men in DC, and then I met the good folks of Progressive Maryland at the Rise Up Convention in Washington, D.C.    That evolved into me becoming the Education lead for Progressive Prince George’s and now a candidate for School Board in my home town.

I believe that Prince George's County is an amazing place to live with lush greenery, tons of parks, lots of educated and informed voters and citizens.  There are improved shopping, dining and entertainment options, the one element keeping Prince George's County from being an exclusive suburban enclave is a world class school system.

I believe that our school systems’ results right now don't match the investment that tax payers are making.  I'd like to see a more challenging curriculum put in place, more parental engagement, and integrity and efficiency in our budget planning.

As a member of the Board of Education I will be a staunch advocate for parents, teachers and students.   I will make sure that we aren't harshly punishing students for minor offenses and perpetuating the school to prison pipeline.  I'm also a big believer in, and defender of public education.  I believe that when fully funded and efficiently budgeted it works.

If you believe what I believe.  Pull the lever for me, Rob Anthony this June in our primary election.

Male Educators of Color

Last Saturday I spent the week with an Organization within DCPS meant to uplift Male Educators of Color in DC. They hosted an event at the Columbia Heights Education Campus.

It was great to hear directly from teachers about their stories in the classroom.   It was also wonderful to see so many black male educators in one space.  In the US ONLY 2% of public educators are black males.  At the event we discussed the importance of having black male teacher, especially for young black men in the education system.

Even though this event was outside of my district there were many things that I heard that are commonplace in educating a majority black public education District.   I'm glad I attended.
