My name is Monica DePaul, and I want to challenge the stranglehold of Republican "good ol' boys" on Southern politics. I am a writer, an educator and a transgender woman who's willing to be as blunt as possible to get a point across. Here are some rather blunt statements:

  • Healthcare should be a guaranteed right, not a privilege exclusively for the rich.
  • College and other forms of advanced education should be affordable.
  • All levels of public education should be properly funded.
  • "Trickle-down" is a lie, so billionaires and corporations should pay their fair share of taxes.
  • An honest day of work deserves a fair and livable wage.
  • Climate change is real and caused by humans, so special treatment to fossil fuel companies who poison air and water must end.
  • Social Security pays for itself and should be expanded, not cut.
  • Americans should not be discriminated against based on race, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, or religion.
  • Being black is not a crime, for-profit prisons are a ridiculous concept, and over-policing must end.
  • Nazis are bad.
  • Domestic abusers and terrorists both foreign and domestic should not be able to buy guns.
  • Building a wall along the Mexican border is a waste of time and money.
  • Billionaires shouldn't control the government.

Intrigued yet? If so, you might be wondering more about me. I received two bachelor's degrees in English and Philosophy and a Master's in English from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. I then taught there as an adjunct English professor for over five years, during which my students paid exorbitant fees to take my classes, whereas I was only paid $2,250 per semester-long course, with no benefits. Yes, that's right, and this was for a job that required a master's degree and was scheduled in a way that made having a full-time job at the same time impossible. I could barely afford to pay my student loans, let alone get my PhD, which wouldn't have even guaranteed better employment. Meanwhile, administrators and coaches made six figures each year. I couldn't stand idly by as students went into debt for the rest of their lives yet barely even paid for their education.

I've never been given a reason to trust those at the very top.  Here's another blunt truth: The rich are not job creators, and most of them inherited their wealth, Donald Trump included; they didn't work hard for it. Yet, how is a single parent working three jobs for minimum wage supposed to pull up their bootstraps, save up for a better education, and live the "American dream" if they can't even pay for rent or food?

Long story short, Republican arguments make no sense, and I'm itching to grade some papers. That's why I'm taking my no-nonsense attitude to Congress where I can award crappy laws with failing grades. I refuse to be bought out and want nothing more than to teach this corrupt government what everyday Americans need.  That's why I need your help to make this campaign happen.

Sincerely,

Monica P. DePaul

Pi Day Contributor Special

A Special Offer for a Mathematical Day

Hi Monica, For all those fans of math out there, March 14 (3/14) is Pi Day, and many people celebrate by going out and pie, whether pizza or pastry. However, I'm offering your the chance to celebrate Pie day with a much appreciated contribution to my campaign. Donate $31.41 or more today and receive signed copies of both my first two books--Blood on Fire and Blood on the Rocks! (Shipping included) https://crowdpac.com/c/monicadepaulforcongress

Blood on Fire is the first book by indie author Monica P. DePaul. This action comedy is the tale of Amy Able, a total nerd who entrenched in the insanity of vampire attacks and the media circus surrounding them. This is not a teen drama. This is a struggle for dominance between a normally light-hearted girl and the dangerous group that transformed her into an undead creature. Learn more about the books here: http://www.mpdepaul.com/bloodonfire/

Blood on the Rocks is the second book by indie author Monica P. DePaul and the sequel to Blood on Fire. Amy Able’s story continues as she is caught in a complex conspiracy that seeks to harm her and her best friends. Normally, high school students look forward to prom, but Amy dreads that everything will go wrong that night. http://www.mpdepaul.com/blood-on-the-rocks/

Thanks so much for your support,

$800 and Counting!

Good news, everyone!

We officially have enough money to create a campaign introduction video! I am currently in talks with a local filmmaker who specializes in creating content for progressive causes. The plan is for it to humorously tackle issues facing everyday Americans, using the signature Monica DePaul comedic style. It will be posted both here on Crowdpac and on YouTube with a link from my main campaign website.

Thanks everyone for your support! I'm honestly humbled by the outpouring of positivity I've seen. Let's keep going strong!

Sincerely,

Monica DePaul

Five and Alive

We've hit the mark! With our fifth contribution in, this campaign is officially rolling!

So you might be asking, "Why set the initial goal at $3000?" Well, my lovely constituents, this is about how much we need for a proper campaign introduction video and media plan. Sure, I could talk to my laptop's webcam, but that's not going to catch anyone's attention.

If you've read either of my Blood Arcana books, you'll know that I'm an extremely over-the-top writer, and I treat politics the same way. Therefore, it only makes sense to utilize my satirical skills in an aggressive YouTube campaign.

In fact, the initial introduction video will be featured right here on Crowdpac, in addition to the homepage of monica4florida.com.

In addition, part of this $3000 and the next goal that follows it will go to funding a dedicated campaign manager to get our ground game moving. We still need petitions to get my name on the ballot, and we need them by the end of April. You can help by filling one out if you haven't already, which you can find at https://monica4florida.com/pet...

Thank you so much, and let's keep this momentum going. You are not alone!

Sincerely,

Monica DePaul
