David Johnson, the new candidate for Richmond City Commissioner, is a new emerging force in city politics. David is an ambitious young man, and one who loves his community. This refreshing new candidate is a champion of important agendas including quality parks for the youth, giving police the tools they need to succeed, keep business local, and keeping taxes low. The core of his platform is built on trust, compassion, and security that many have come in contact with him at Gates Honda or Jack Burford Chevrolet.

David is committed to being a fighter for those who support his work. His actions have already begun to benefit the citizens of Richmond. Over the years, David has volunteered his time to work on the City of Richmond Human Rights Commission. During his tenure, he has handled complaints that deal with serious issues such as discrimination, workplace environments, and disability.

David’s volunteerism can be seen in many examples over the years. When Jerry Combs, former Madison County Sherriff, passed away, Madison County residents were stricken with grief and despair. David worked hand-in-hand with former Rep. Rita Smart to rename the KY 1016 Highway after Jerry Combs to reflect Combs’s legacy in law enforcement. Not only did this act of kindness lift the spirits of the entire community, but it showed David’s trust and compassion.

David began an early career in government after graduating from Madison Southern High School. Despite offers from other institutions of higher education, David enrolled at Eastern Kentucky University in the Political Science program and volunteered as a precinct worker for former County Clerks Mary Jane Ginter and Billy Gabbard.   He earned his degree in 2005, and at that point he had a fair share of knowledge to enter into the world of politics and government. He has since used that knowledge to hone his professional skills in government to prepare him for a Richmond City Commission candidacy.

David Johnson is a stellar example of a citizen that has paid his dues to be elected to a public office. He has not only proved his dedication to ensuring the better good for the community, but he also shown the power of volunteerism and collaboration to make things happen in this great city we all call home!
