MY STORY

I was raised in Flint, Michigan and have seen first-hand the devastating effects when government fails its citizens. Like everyone else, I trusted elected leaders to act in our best interests, but I now realize that we must be citizen activists to ensure that we're at the table, so the important decisions implemented by the Board of Supervisors reflect our values.

I'm running for the Orange County Board of Supervisors (BOS) because everything that the BOS oversees and funds will positively or negatively affect the lives of 3.2 million people in our county. As a co-founding member of the 48th District Action Council and the HB Huddle, I've been active in recruiting candidates to run for office. During that process, I discovered the questionable decisions made by the BOS and decided to run in the 2nd District against the incumbent conservative, Michelle Steel.

As the BOS member in the 2nd district, I  will: 1) Proactively work to implement solutions that result in long-term housing for the homeless and address the issues of taxpayers, property owners, businesses, and emergency services around the homeless issue;  2) Work smart to mitigate the effects of climate change in Orange County to preserve our precious environment for future generations; 3) Work with the private sector, city governments, and advocacy groups to create comprehensive solutions that focus on  transparency and ethical decision-making by the board; and 4) Improve our quality of life by promoting a safe and affordable place to live, work and raise a family.

I'm the proud son of a 30-year GM union auto-worker and homemaker. My parents taught me the value of a good education and the responsibility to serve the community. I attended public schools and was motivated by teachers to set high goals. Despite a modest upbringing, I put myself through college with scholarships, student loans, and working part-time jobs to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the prestigious General Motors Institute.

At seventeen, I negotiated a position with NASA where I contributed to the development of new technologies for space-based science missions, rocket design, and analysis. I'm currently an aerospace executive and manage acquisition programs for the U.S. Air Force to support a strong military for our country. I moved to Huntington Beach from Washington, DC in 2006 with my partner of 22 years because we believe Orange County is the best place in the country to live.

WHY THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS?

Orange County has a population of 3.2 million people. That's larger than 21 states in the union. All of those states are governed by a Governor and a legislature. In Orange County, our governing body is the Board of Supervisors, which are just five voting members who preside over an annual budget of $6 billion. That's a lot of concentrated power, so we need to ensure that we have a member on the board in the 2nd District who truly represents our democratic values.

Join me so together we can make a difference!

It's rare to have a candidate so well suited to the job, or one that I feel so strongly about.”

“Brendon has a well-considered, practical, informed approach to the issues concerning Orange County. He can articulate information comprehensively, yet in a way understandable to others. His background as a key participant in multi-billion-dollar, 9-time-zone, 10,000 member teams prepares him well for the complexity needed to bring the various stakeholders in Orange County's issues to 'stay at the table'. He's got tenacity, excellent negotiating skills, and is a good listener. I'm glad he's stepped forward to make the huge time sacrifice to dive headfirst into this campaign. These are some of the reasons I thoroughly endorse Brendon Perkins for Orange County Supervisor.”

“Without reservation, I enthusiastically endorse Brendon Perkins for the Orange County Board of Supervisors. Orange County deserves representation and the current board only caters to one side of the political isle. Brendon will represent all constituents honorably and forthrightly.
