After hearing Dr. Ed Richardson's presentation on the state of the Montgomery Public Schools to the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting in December, I started asking myself, "What can I do?".  In late January I was asked if I would consider running for MPS Board District 5 and without hesitation, I said yes.

I am a product of the Montgomery Public Schools, graduating from Sidney Lanier in 1979.  I want the children in our community to have the same quality education and post graduation opportunities that I was fortunate enough to have received.  I believe this can only come with change.

In my opinion because the Montgomery Public Schools are currently under the supervision of the State Board of Education, we have both a chance and an obligation to each and every child in Montgomery to repair, restore, and rebuild our education system.

I have been the executive director of Child Protect, Children's Advocacy Center since April 2001.  Throughout this time I have had the chance to work with the Montgomery Public Schools in several capacities.  In the last year I was appointed by presiding (now retired) Judge Gene Reese to co-chair the Erin's Law implementation with MPS Superintendent Margaret Allen.  I have also presented Mandatory Reporting Laws to the MPS Principal's Academy and to individual schools in Montgomery.

In my role as executive director I have worked with the agency's board of directors and our multi-disciplinary teams consisting of the Montgomery Police Department, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, the Montgomery County Department of Human Resources, the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office, and Montgomery Mental Health.

I am running for school board district 5 because I have the experience to work with groups of diverse people for a common mission.  When elected I will commit to working with the other 6 members of the MPS Board to follow and implement the states recommendations so our children can have every opportunity they deserve.
