MY VISION

To serve the people of the Encanto Precinct by providing efficient and accessible administration of justice with integrity, fairness, and respect to all.

ABOUT ME

I was born in Mesa, Arizona in 1970. I am happily married to my wife of 23 years, Elena, and we have three beautiful children together. My daughter is a paralegal and my oldest son is a U.S. Marine. My youngest son is about to start high school and aspires to be an aerospace engineer. My wife is a lifelong educator and works for a local school district. I have completed a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management, a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership, and a Juris Doctorate.  I am the managing attorney at Sobampo Law Firm, PLLC. I am a family man and a Democrat.

JOB READY

It is imperative that a newly elected justice of the peace be prepared and ready to start work on the first day in office! A newly elected “non-lawyer” faces a large learning curve in the first few years and may experience considerable downtime in learning legal research and rules of procedure. As a licensed practicing attorney, the transition from attorney to justice of the peace is seamless. The justice of the peace position will require me to apply the same law that I currently advocate, so I am ready to do this on the first day!

ACCOMPLISHED

Prior to my admission to the State Bar of Arizona, I dedicated over 15 years to private industry where I owned and managed several multi-million-dollar companies, creating hundreds of local jobs and contributing significantly to the local economy.

I have been recognized, among other things, for my work in serving the underserved Latino population in Arizona. I have provided hundreds of legal volunteer hours to immigration efforts such as the citizenship drives sponsored by Congressman Ed Pastor and with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program sponsored by the IRS, and the Maricopa County Family Lawyer's Assistance Program. Also,

I have worked as adjunct faculty at my alma matter and other local colleges and universities in Arizona.

FAIR

I am a lawyer, former businessman and educator, but I am not a politician or former politician. I do not have any ties to lobbyists or special interest groups. I do not bring any political “baggage” to office.

My work as attorney requires me to appear and litigate before judges practically every week. Being in the trenches has afforded me first-hand knowledge of seeing judges that misapply the law, do not comply with proper procedure or rules of evidence, and who lack empathy and abuse their discretion.

I believe, the justice of the peace is a servant of the local community and must be aware of the issues of importance to constituents of the judicial precinct. I will apply equal, fair, and impartial application of the law to all cases to ensure they are fairly decided based upon legally relevant factors. Also, I will strongly combat political winds that seek undermine the judicial independence of the office.

PROGRESSIVE

As justice of the peace, I will serve with a progressive approach sensitive and responsive to the needs of a diverse constituency. I will fight and defend judicial independence and work diligently to build public trust and confidence in the judicial system.

I've always believed that an elected official should take lead in establishing program and strategies to identify problems and devise solutions facing the community.  I will strive to be engaged in the local community with an emphasis in education and training; to execute a service-oriented approach with the public; and implement court procedures that facilitate the expeditious and economical resolution of disputes.
