In the District of Columbia, less than a third of children are rated as “college and career ready” despite recent test gains, and it was recently revealed that lack of oversight over our schools has allowed widespread misrepresentation of student truancy and graduation rates. Ward 5 is the largest of DC’s eight wards, accounting for approximately 14% of the District’s school age children, where less than 20% of students are meeting proficiency standards and, similar to other areas in the District, some schools have fraudulently misrepresented thousands of student records.

We can do better. We must do better.

Therefore, I ask you to join me in charting a new path for DC's State Board of Education and its students.

Ward 5 deserves trusted leadership and a representative on the School Board that is deeply invested in improving the life outcomes of all of our students, especially those who have been most underserved.

As a third generation educator, former award-winning teacher, business owner, and founder/leader of a social activism non-profit, I stand uniquely ready to serve Ward 5 and bring about real change and results to improve our schools.

We need better leader and teacher training, greater oversight and evaluation of DC schools by the State Board of Education, increased school autonomy, improved collaboration between schools and community stakeholders, and the maintenance of high learning standards that promises a path toward college and careers for our students.

Thanks in advance for your support.

“I got to know Zachary when he brought a group of friends to South Africa to volunteer for my nonprofit, Love to Langa, as part of his birthday celebration. He has since become a valued board member. With smarts and enthusiasm to spare, I know he would have a tremendous impact on the DC State Board and I'm excited to see where the future takes him!”

“Dedicated. Dynamic. Driven. Didactic. These are just a few words that describe Zachary Parker as an educator and advocate for children. Having had the privilege of working with him in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina, there is not an ounce of doubt in my mind that he possesses the promise, necessary expertise, and passion to bring change to D. C.'s public schools. Horace Mann, widely known as the father of American public education, asserted that education is society's great equalizer. Mr. Parker wants to ensure that this foundational vision is not a relic of the past, but a reality for all children today and beyond.”

Help me reach our $30K benchmark!

Supporter,

During a time where more than 70% of Ward 5 students are not proficient in reading and math, we need a competent and qualified advocate on the State Board of Education. In order to ensure our victory in November, we must have the resources to knock on doors, advertise, and get our message out to voters. We're currently $375 away from our $30,000 benchmark.

Please consider donating again if you have not yet reached the $200 limit, even if only $10 or $20.

We have defied our opponents' and naysayers' expectations. We have outworked and raised more than our opposition -- because there is so much at stake in this election.

When they go low and say a teacher cannot beat the political establishment, I borrow from a role model in saying, "Yes we can!"

Let me be clear, I do not take your support lightly. I am humbled and grateful for your continued support of my campaign and DC education. Together, we will be victorious in November. Together, we will help chart a new path for DC students.

In solidarity,

Zach

We're officially on the ballot

Friend,

Yesterday, I submitted hundreds of signatures from Ward 5 residents to officially be on the ballot in November's general election. We are one step closer to helping chart a new path for DC students.

I am proud to run as a 10-year educator who works with our schools every single day. I am even more proud to run a people-centered campaign, focused on the issues facing our students.

In the coming weeks and months, our team will reach every corner of our Ward -- and I need your continued support.

Please consider donating again if you've donated under $200.

Thanks for standing up for DC students and with me.

Onward and upward,

Zachary

THANK YOU!

Supporter,

The numbers are in from our first filing June 10 deadline! My opponent raised $5,399.88 and I raised $23,643.27 (with a $200 contribution max).

THANK YOU!

We're not done and have a long road ahead. While we made a really strong showing in our first financial filing, the truth is that my opponent is politically connected and likely feels the need to raise less money (or even do the hard work of getting to know voters).

We have sent a loud message that change has come to Ward 5 and we are serious about the change our students need and deserve.

We will continue pushing toward our $50,000 goal so we can hire volunteers, mail information to voters, criss cross across the Ward, effectively target our 90,000 residents and win in November!

We welcome you to contribute again if you have not already reached the max donation. If you have maxed out, please consider forwarding our campaign site or drafting an email to friends and family.

Thank you again.

In Solidarity,

Zachary
