There are 519,682 elected offices in the United States.  Our goal is to raise $1.00 for every seat.

Why This Matters

We are in urgent need of a more inclusive and diverse government. Right now, 7 out of 10 people in power in our government are male—and 90% of the time, those men are white—but they’re representing a country made up of a majority of women and people of color. That imbalance of representation needs to change. And it can.

The Time Is Now

This November, we have a shot at overturning the incumbents. With an unprecedented number of elected officials retiring, the opportunity to put diverse women in office is now. Our focus: recruit and educate a new generation of leaders to run at both the state and local level. Already, thousands of women who are ready to take the helm have reached out to VoteRunLead for campaign training.

How We Do It

In a recent survey in Marie Claire magazine, 56% of women polled said they don’t think as many women run for office as men because no one has ever encouraged them to run. We’re changing that narrative.

With support like yours, we offer award-winning training and cutting-edge online tools so that campaign resources and live political experts are actually within reach of impassioned women who want to get out and make a difference. All of VoteRunLead’s unique campaign and leadership trainings are practical, actionable, nonpartisan, and individualized.

With each election being just as important as the next, we are committed to building a strong, sustainable network of women who are ready to vote, ready to run, and ready to lead.

Our Success So Far

We encourage women to #RunAsYouAre — and win. Here are just a few of our winners:

  • Ilhan Omar, the first Somali American woman to be elected to any state legislature in the country and currently the highest ranking Somali American elected official.
  • Park Cannon, elected at 24 years old, is the first openly queer woman elected to Georgia State Assembly.
  • Brenda Lopez is first Latina elected to the Georgia State Assembly.
  • JoCasta Zamarripa is the first Latina and openly bisexual legislator elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly.
  • Catherine Emmannuel is the first Latina and youngest woman elected to the Eau Claire City Council.

We are — quite literally — changing the face of government.

About Us

With more than 33,000 women trained to run for office, VoteRunLead is the largest and most diverse campaign and leadership program in the country. Our mission is to educate diverse women to unleash their independent political power, seek public office and transform American democracy. We work to equip women with the right know-how and training to help them enter politics with a purpose. We believe that by empowering women to run as they are, they will build a campaign based on their own passion, their own ideas, and their own values.
