Fact: 7 out of 10 people in our government are male. Another fact: 90% of the time, those men are white.

The problem: They’re representing a country with a majority of women and people of color.

We’re changing that: We’ll train 30,000 barrier-breaking women across all political parties to run for office by 2020, because the opportunity to put women from all backgrounds in office is now.

What We’re Doing

There are 519,682 elected offices in the United States.  Our goal is to raise $1 for every seat.

We’ve trained thousands of women to run for office—and win. In fact, 70% of our first-time candidates won their primaries in 2018, and 60% of our training attendees are women of color.

We’re just getting started. Change is happening now—and with your donation, you can actively be part of it.

Why This Matters

We’re in urgent need of a more inclusive and diverse government.

This November, we have a shot at bringing so many women into the fold. And that momentum cycles into the future: With an unprecedented number of elected officials retiring and thousands of women reaching out to VoteRunLead for campaign training, there’s no better time to recruit and educate a new generation of leaders as we move toward 2020 and beyond.

How We Do It

We’re changing a narrative that says women aren’t encouraged to run for office.

With your support, we offer award-winning training and cutting-edge online tools so campaign resources and political experts are finally within the reach of impassioned women. We’ve proved these barrier-breaking women are out there and want to make a difference.

Our campaign and leadership trainings are practical, actionable, nonpartisan, and individualized. That means we’re building a strong, sustainable network of women who are ready to vote, run, and lead.

And it’s working. But don’t take our word for it…

VoteRunLead Alumnae in Their Own Words

  • “On September 22, I filed to run for City Council. On September 23, I attended a VoteRunLead training in New Hampshire. And on Election Day, I won a seat on City Council! Thank you for the support and the confidence boost to go for it!” - Lindsey Williams, recently elected to Dover, NH City Council
  • “I recently won my first election this week and will be the fourth woman in history to sit on the Worthington, Ohio, City Council. The VoteRunLead training I attended in Columbus was what made the difference in my campaign. So thank you VoteRunLead for giving us the encouragement and tools we need to bring more women into public office. I hope to do the same for the younger women in my own community. There's another council race for the other three seats in two years, and I will be on the lookout for women to run.” - Beth Kowalczyk, recently elected to Worthington, OH City Council
  • “The most helpful part was the time [VoteRunLead founder Erin Vilardi] spent helping me to create a ‘Why’ statement. I was about to build on that and clearly articulate my views at forums. Hundreds of people told me that my performance at the forums won their vote!” - Heather Raymond, recently elected to Nashua, NH Board of Education

How We’ve Changed the Face of Government

Meet just a few more VoteRunLead alumni who are now in office:

  • Ilhan Omar, the first Somali-American woman to be elected to any state legislature in the country and currently the highest ranking Somali-American elected official.

  • Park Cannon, elected at 24 years old, is the first openly queer woman elected to Georgia State Assembly.

  • Brenda Lopez is first Latina elected to the Georgia State Assembly.

  • JoCasta Zamarripa is the first Latina and openly bisexual legislator elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly.

  • Catherine Emmannuel is the first Latina and youngest woman elected to the Eau Claire City Council.
