We are only weeks from the primaries in California, and there is a distinct risk that there would be two candidates who are bad for the environment and bad for constituents. For those of you who don't know, California has a "top two" primary, meaning that the top two vote-getters in the primaries move on to the General Election. For CA-48, that means there could be two Republicans - incumbent Dana Rohrabacher and his pal Scott Baugh - on the ticket.
Blue Uprising, a new surfing Political Action Committee, is doing everything it can to make sure that doesn't happen. Today, we are revealing a new pre-primary billboard fundraising campaign. "But this doesn’t have anything to surfing or the ocean?!?" you say. In this case, we have to move our efforts beyond the surfing community and use hard-hitting messaging that will help inform voters in CA-48.
Why “From Russia With Love”? Because Dana Rohrabacher and many Republican candidates have been too friendly towards Russia, which - as you may recall - intentionally attempted to influence the US Presidential elections. Even if you agree with the outcome of the election, you can probably also agree that external efforts to destabilize our democracy should be thwarted. Here, the incumbent, Dana Rohrabacher has been called “Putin's Favorite Congressman,” and not without good reason! He has repeatedly defended Russia, and does not see Russia’s intervention in our elections - both past and future - as a threat. And Dana's challenger is not much better. Scott Baugh recently invited the architect of Brexit, Nigel Farage, to California to fundraise in an attempt to sew discourse and advocate for "Calexit," i.e., breaking California out of the United States! It is widely accepted that Russia meddled in the Brexit referendum.(see footnote)
There is something fishy going on with both these candidates and the common denominator is Russia. Help us spread the word and inform CA-48 voters!
This is an urgent call for funding because we want this ad to run for 1 month prior to the June 5 primary election.
It will cost $6,000 for the billboard you see above to run for four weeks, so that's our first goal. If all goes well, our location will be Harbor Blvd. in Santa Ana, which has a traffic volume of over 100,000 per week!
