An internship on the Hill is a prerequisite for a career in public service. Sadly, this invaluable experience will cost each intern over $6,000 (via Alexandra Mondalek in TIME). The overwhelming majority of internships offered in both chambers are unpaid, resulting in a situation where most people able to afford congressional internships come from families of means.
In less than two years since Pay Our Interns was founded, our efforts have led to the creation of 100 paid internships. Some of our biggest wins include getting a dozen Members of Congress and the Democratic National Committee to pay their interns.
Help us reach our goal of $6,500–the cost of an average unpaid internship. With those resources, we will fund a paid intern for the summer and help POI pay the salary of our employees. We are a registered 501(c)(3) organization and all gifts are tax-deductible, where allowed.
