Justin is running as a write-in candidate for Illinois' 3rd Congressional District seat.

If there are a handful of key races across the country to watch this November, this is one of them. All eyes will be on the choice voters make in this district. Here’s why:

***

One of the candidates whose name is on the ballot is an avowed neo-Nazi, a proud racist, and a Holocaust denier. His name is Arthur Jones. He is a bigot who does not reflect the 3rd District's commitment to American values. He received nearly 21,000 votes in the March primary - in his own words, he "snookered" voters. His admitted agenda includes reintroducing legally mandated segregation and anti-Semitism into American communities. If you still aren’t convinced that racial and religious discrimination are the cornerstone of Jones’ campaign, know that Jones also openly opposes the civil rights of women and the LGBTQ community.

***

The other candidate on the ballot is Dan Lipinski. While a decent man, Lipinski is a total bench player in Congress.  For 13 years, Lipinski has watched from the safety of the sidelines as matters of consequence to the 3rd District are debated on the Floor of the House of Representatives. He has missed one opportunity after another to advocate for our District.  In his 13 years in Congress, Lipinski has been the primary sponsor of only three unremarkable bills that have been signed into law - and one of them was a bill to rename a post office.  He is completely absent from the scrutiny of the media and he lends no voice to the national conversation. Voters only hear from Dan Lipinski when he's running for reelection.

Justin will bring energy and leadership back to this District, and give his constituents a strong voice.

***

Both of these candidates are hoping voters won’t pay close attention - Jones to the fact that he is a Nazi, and Lipinski to the fact that he has been ineffective as a lawmaker. And with our national political discourse more inflamed than ever, that’s unacceptable. It’s time for a change.

***

Justin Hanson has the experience and heart to restore our District’s voice through statesmanship in Congress. He served as a Cook County Assistant State's Attorney, where he earned a reputation across Chicago’s legal community for fairness, excellence, and constructive problem solving. As a volunteer, he taught constitutional law and civil rights to grade school and high school students in Chicago Public Schools located in Back of the Yards and West Lawn. He serves on the Village of La Grange Design Review Commission and is a member of the Lyons Township Community Advisory Council. Before becoming an attorney, Justin worked on Capitol Hill as a policy analyst for Congressional leadership. His very first job was sweeping warehouses and unloading brick in a Bridgeview brickyard. He was 14.

***

Justin is a proud husband and father, and is in love with his family. He and his wife, Lindsay, are absolutely dedicated to ensuring a future that is happy, bright, strong, and equal for their daughter and all women. They are equally committed to raising their son to understand the power of empathy, and to be an advocate for equality and fairness.

Justin has a track record of hard work, public service, and integrity. His career experiences have given him a front row seat to our nation’s legislative process and judicial system. He knows what it takes to speak up for citizens. And he is tirelessly devoted to doing what is right.

It will take a candidate like Justin, dedicated to the good of the District and the country before any political party, to begin to break the partisan gridlock that continues to grip Congress.

***

Even one vote for a Nazi is one too many. We need your help to ensure extreme racism and bigotry have no place in American governance, and that voters of the 3rd District truly have a choice when they step into the voting booth in November.

Help us support new leadership to defeat Nazism, reject passive representation, and restore statesmanship to American politics. Support Justin’s write-in candidacy.

National Non-Profit Endorses Justin!

Friends,

We are excited and proud to report that Justin has received the endorsement of the national non-profit All The Good We Can!

This is the first time ATGWC, a national non-profit devoted to fighting for what's right, has made the choice to endorse a political candidate. Justin is incredibly humbled. And he's going to continue to work as hard as he can in the lead-up to Election Day to make good on the trust voters are placing in him.

The endorsement is posted on ATGWC's website here: . You can also read their words below:

***

ATGWC PROUDLY ENDORSES JUSTIN HANSON FOR ILLINOIS' 3RD CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT

VOTERS IN ILLINOIS’ 3RD CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT DESERVE A BETTER CHOICE THAN WHAT’S ON THE BALLOT - AND A STRONGER VOICE IN CONGRESS.

THAT IS WHY ALL THE GOOD WE CAN IS PROUD TO ENDORSE JUSTIN HANSON.

Now, more than ever, it is imperative that we VOTE OUR VALUES. Unfortunately, in today’s political climate, it is not enough that a candidate merely shares our values. Change takes courage, and therefore we need candidates who not only share our values, but who are also courageous enough to speak truth to power. That candidate is Justin Hanson, an Independent write-in candidate for Illinois' 3rd Congressional District seat.

Justin has the experience to make change in Illinois’ 3rd Congressional District. He served as a Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney, worked on Capitol Hill as a policy analyst for Congressional leadership, and even volunteered to teach constitutional law and civil rights to young students in Chicago Public Schools. In addition to currently practicing law at a well-respected Chicago law firm, he also serves on the Design Review Commission for the Village of La Grange.

But more importantly, Justin has the heart, empathy and relentless dedication needed to restore civility and equality while defeating bigotry and hatred. Justin Hanson is tirelessly devoted to doing what is right- and because of that, we endorse him for Illinois' 3rd Congressional District seat.

On November 6th, vote your values, elect new leaders who will work to defeat bigotry, reject passive representation, and restore statesmanship to American politics. Write in Justin Hanson.

You can learn more about Justin at www.justinhansonforcongress.com. Also, be sure to follow Justin on Instagram (@justinhansonforcongress), Twitter (@JWHforCongress), and on Facebook (@JustinHansonforIL3).

In these final few days, our targeted outreach has more impact than in any of the weeks before. If you can give at all today, please do. No donation is too small and no support too late. We're putting every dollar to use until the minute the polls are closed, making sure voters know NOT to vote for Jones - and that they have a better choice in Justin. Thanks again, and keep up the good fight!

November 1, 2018

This is it: the final stretch.

We're in the go-zone now! T minus 5 days until Election Day! Can you help?

When Election Night wraps, and as the results come in, we'll see just part of the results of our efforts. It will take them up to 3 weeks to properly document, tally, and report out the vote total for Justin's candidacy as a write-in. On Election Day, we'll be focusing on something more immediate: as polls close and results are counted, we'll get to see how LOW we've managed to push vote totals for the white supremacist Nazi candidate, Arthur Jones.

But we can't do it alone.

Some key numbers for you:

Here in IL-03, in the general election, balloted candidates on the Republican side tend to pull in anywhere from TWICE to THREE TIMES the votes they received in the primary. Jones received more than 21,000 votes in the primary. This means we could potentially see nearly 60,000 votes cast on Election Day for a white supremacist here in Illinois - and most of them would be because voters didn't know. Good people assume that having a major party stamp under his name means there's a modicum of trustworthiness to his candidacy. But there's not. And our campaign is the only organization that's doing anything to make sure voters know.

Our Number One Goal has always been to stand up to the hatred Jones espouses. We do that by pushing Jones' vote totals DOWN. And we achieve this by informing as many voters as we can. To date, we've used targeted digital advertising to touch more than 130,000 voters across the 3rd District. But there's still more to do. Through Election Day, we'll continue phone banking, canvassing, emailing, and using social media to get the word out to protect voters and let them know they have a better choice than the names on the ballot.

Every dollar helps us reach more voters. The election outcome might seem like a done deal, but there's a bigger message at stake here: we need to stand together as a district, to prevent Jones from accumulating almost 60,000 votes, so that every extremist candidate who's watching knows that they are not welcome on our ballots

Read Justin's recent article in The Patch on this very topic: https://patch.com/illinois/oak...

I hope you'll consider chipping in to our cause. This is the most critical time, when the most voters are tuning in as they prepare for Election Day. Chipping in $25 will help us reach approximately 200 more people through targeted digital outreach. That's 200 more people who can make an informed, empowered decision in the voting booth. And it's 200 fewer votes legitimizing hate.

We ALL deserve better than a Nazi on the ballot. With your help, we can make sure this is the LAST time we need to worry about this. Thank you!

Raising awareness & fighting the good fight!

Hi everyone,

How can it ALREADY be T minus Two Weeks to Election Day?!

We're in ultimate go-mode over here: our focus is on ensuring as many voters as possible are aware of Arthur Jones, the avowed Holocaust denier, white supremacist, Nazi party member who unfortunately secured the GOP nomination (uncontested). That means knocking on doors, making phone calls, and getting creative - think memes! - to spread the word to voters in IL-03.

We're proud that our effort seems to be making an impression. Time and again, across the district on a daily basis, voters express how refreshing it is to see someone in the race who is positive, reasonable, passionate, and fighting for what's right.

We're especially proud of how the fundraising numbers affirm that story. The incumbent in our District, Dan Lipinski, raised $22k from individual donations in Q3. He likely employs a full-time professional fundraiser and campaign manager to help him with that effort. Our non-professional never-done-this-before team raised double that. Thanks to your donations and enthusiastic support, we brought in $44,000 in donations in Q3 - and we didn't even exist as a campaign for all of Q3! (Not all of this appears on CrowdPAC, as some donations were direct-to-campaign in the form of checks. But you can search for our raw FEC filings to see for yourself.)

The incumbent may have out-raised us in PAC donations, but that doesn't bother us. That's because we've sworn off PAC money for this race.  Justin is opposed to the outsized influence of corporations and special interests on our political discourse. Voters must be ready for a change if the 13-year incumbent's individual fundraising was so low. It's all the more encouraging to know that, based on feedback across the district and on the Q3 numbers, we're resonating with the entities that matter most - the voters.

*I should mention that Lipinski has been near-silent regarding Nazi Arthur Jones for much of this race. He hasn't found the time or wherewithal to discuss this with voters or the press. But he did find the time to send two fundraising emails asking for voters to give him $15,000 to "help defeat the Nazi." We've challenged him to reveal exactly how he is putting that $15k to work between now and Election Day to benefit voters in the fight against Jones. It's his moral responsibility as our elected representative to actively SPEAK UP to voters, to warn them of Jones' candidacy. Regardless of political party, we all benefit from fighting this kind of hatred.  This has been our frustration with the incumbent from the beginning: he brings low energy to the seat, and we only hear from him when he's running for reelection. We can do better.*

We're not done yet! With two weeks left, we're focused on raising voter awareness about Jones and combatting his unprecedented opportunity to hoodwink good people. That means we're engaged in some good old-fashioned "sign wars" (and by the way, somebody keeps stealing our signs - I think that means we're on to something?) and voter outreach efforts. We've got one more batch of signs coming, 3 more evenings of group phone banking with volunteers (and pizza), and a few more large-group canvassing days.

We need your help to ensure we can do all of this and more through to Election Day. Please consider chipping in another $20 to help us order more yard signs, place more digital ads, design helpful memes/infographics, and even purchase billboard space on a major road near us. Each donation makes it possible to reach more voters. Otherwise, we run the risk of many thousands of voters inadvertently legitimizing someone who stands for nothing but hatred and intolerance - and our district deserves FAR better. Support our cause and we promise, we'll work incredibly hard for the next 14 days to deliver on that message!

Thank you,

Justin & Lindsay

Our campaign video, fundraising deadlines, and more

Friends, Voters, and Curious Onlookers,

Where did September go?!

First, as many of you may know, the quarterly fundraising deadline with the FEC is coming up in just a few days. Close of books is September 30th. That means every last politician out there is pushing to earn YOUR dollars.

We have a suggestion for framing your decision-making process as everybody rushes to hustle you for donations: think about where your dollars can have the BIGGEST impact for good, and point your web browser (or your checkbook) in that direction.

Our campaign has learned how to communicate with voters and local organizations without wasting precious resources. We're a small, scrappy team, and we've been giving it everything we've got. We've achieved more in 6 weeks to build name recognition and spark enthusiasm than many major-party campaigns have done in months. We've even generated more press coverage since August than the major-party incumbent has (he's riding OUR coattails!). And we've done it because we've thought long and hard about how we spend each precious dollar supporters have donated.

Big money politics is easy and wasteful; being the upstart takes a lot more work.

At this point, every dollar you can contribute to our campaign is going straight into voter outreach. It's reordering yard signs, printing more flyers, sending thank-you notes, and helping us pay for some digital spread-the-word ads. It's educating voters about who the Nazi candidate is (no, I'm not using the term lightly, it's literal) and what he really believes in. It's creating wearable social tools (t-shirts, silicone bracelets, and buttons) that empower our own supporters to spread the word about Justin's positive independent campaign, to show that they're on the #LipinskiOutHansonIN train. (By the way, if you're local and want a silicone bracelet, let me know. First batch comes in this week!)

Things your donations are NOT going towards: salaries, fancy meals, travel expenses, attack ads, or other politics-as-usual expenditures. (We did buy lunch once for our two interns, but I promise that's it.)

All this to say: we're trying to do things differently than politicians from both parties have done things in the past. Our budget is smaller, but our commitment is stronger. A dollar with us has a much bigger impact than a dollar with the incumbent. And we hope you'll think of us - Justin Hanson for Congress - when you think about giving before October 1.

Finally, there is one thing we spent a little money on earlier this month, and we are SO excited to share it with you: we created a campaign video.  We wanted to introduce Justin in a more personal way, to give voters a sense of who he is and why he was inspired to do this.

Take a look. Share it on social media. Email it to friends and family. Visit the website and sign up for emails. Chip in what you can.

Whatever you do, think about what you want our voice in Congress to sound like - is it the tired voice of the past, or the tireless voice that fights for what's right? - and point your support in that direction.

We're so motivated by fighting for what we believe in. We hope you'll feel the same.

Thanks again, and we look forward to updating you again soon!

September 8, 2018

September: Things are heating up.

Now that the Labor Day holiday is over, kids across Illinois are back in school (including our own preschooler!) and we're hard at work in Campaign Headquarters to spread the word about Justin's campaign!

Former President Obama just spoke at U of I about how it's more important than ever right now to stand up to hate, regardless of one's political affiliation. That's exactly what we're doing -- and we hope you'll join us.

We didn't hit our CrowdPAC fundraising goal for August, but we're not discouraged: we forged many important relationships that have helped us strengthen our ground game going into November, and those are invaluable. We continue to seek donations because every additional dollar helps us print more flyers and reach more voters, and as we all know, every vote makes a difference!

Over the next 8 weeks, we'll be knocking on doors, marching in local parades, making phone calls, and sending emails to try to reach as many voters as we can, one by one, before Election Day. We have the infrastructure set to be able to put enthusiastic volunteers to work as part of our team; we're partnering with Polis, a door-knocking app, and Crowdskout, a digital outreach platform, to ensure that our efforts are as efficient and informative as possible. And we're about to release our first campaign video (check back in about a week!) to introduce people to Justin in a more personal way.

We look forward to keeping you apprised of our efforts. Please help us continue to build the momentum for change!

August 20, 2018

Keep us moving forward! We've tripled our goal!

Wow - only one week after doubling our goal from $10,000 to $20,000, we not only met our new goal but exceeded it. What can we say but THANK YOU. Justin and the whole campaign team are thrilled and grateful. We will live up to every dollar by working as hard as we possibly can to make voters aware that they have a better choice in November for beating the Nazi candidate and bringing renewed energy to their voice in Congress.

We've increased our fundraising goal to $30,000, and we've set an ambitious goal: to reach $30,000 before August 30! Another $10,000 makes it possible to create some new campaign materials - flyers, mailers, door hangers, more signs - and gives us enough of a fund to be able to subscribe to robust email softwares to reach voters digitally through Election Day.

We've got 10 days to make it happen. Can you help us? Share, spread the word, and give! Learn more and follow the action at www.justinhansonforcongress.com. Thank you for believing we can bring statesmanship back to Illinois' 3rd District. We promise to keep fighting to make that a reality.

August 8, 2018

Let's do this thing: $10,000 raised & people are talking!

We're so pleased to announce that we've reached our first CrowdPAC fundraising goal of $10,000 - and in only 6 days! Thank you so much to each contributor who has helped our campaign get off the ground. We're going to increase our donation goal to help us keep climbing towards success.

In the meantime, we're delighted that the announcement of the campaign's launch has received some significant press coverage. Some of the outlets who have reported on the campaign today include Politico's Playbook (which broke the story), the Chicago Tribune, Capital Fax,  Vice News, and The Hill.

Justin looks forward to continuing to work hard to reach and hear from voters in the 3rd District as he moves forward with this important effort.

Every dollar counts - so please share, donate, and help Justin defeat the Nazi candidate and offer a better choice to Illinois' 3rd District voters!
