I'm Mark Bordeau, and I’m running for a seat on the BroomeCounty Legislature because I believe in effective, efficient and ethical government that is transparent and responsive to the needs of all constituents. As the Senior Director of Food Services for Broome-Tioga BOCES, a board member of the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, and member of the Broome County Child Hunger Task Force, I see firsthand how childhood hunger impacts families in our community. Through my position at BOCES and my participation on these advisory boards, I have helped lessen food insecurity and hunger in our area, while promoting local and regional agriculture. I have been involved in policy-making at the local, state and federal levels to achieve:
•A robust farm-to-school program, working with over 10 NYS farms and food hubs to positively impact children's health, while benefiting our local economy;
•Over a 90% increase in the number of children eating school breakfast;
•A fully implemented Backpack Program to provide healthy snacks on weekends for school-aged children in all 15 school districts in our region
And now, I want to work for you, to address the economic, social and health issues facing Broome County. I’m ready to listen to your concerns, work hard and do all I can to help create a better, stronger and healthier Broome County.
