Welcome neighbors, I'm Bradly ("Brad") McGarr, and I'm running because our community needs someone who is willing to champion what is best for the people who live and work here.
I want to work to ensure that Shakopee remains a community where families and individuals can not just survive, but thrive. Our community is growing and more development is coming, however, that growth and opportunity won't benefit everyone unless we have someone who will represent the best interest of the people who live and work in Shakopee. We need better public transportation, affordable housing, and someone pushing to ensure that development does not push residents and small businesses out in favor of corporate interests. We need smart development and growth, not growth at any cost.
I grew up the middle of three boys to hard-working parents who know all too well what it's like to have to pull yourself up from the bottom. We grew up poor, and sometimes homeless. When my parents were successful, the economics of the world sought to push them back down: the cost of living rising faster than wages could keep up. Even as an adult, I've experienced boom and bust of a successful career in technology only to be laid-off in a corporate change-of-direction.
It is my goal as a member of City Council that we work hard to ensure that folks working paycheck-to-paycheck don't get left behind and forgotten as happens all too often. We need a city that works for the benefit of everyone, not just a few. We need a city council that is accountable, reliable and looks out for the best interests of our diverse community.
