Recently, Congressman Ruben Gallego announced an interest in running for the late Senator John McCain's United States Senate seat. In the event that a vacancy for Congressional District 7 occurs, I will run.

I'm Talonya Adams. I am exploring a run for the United States House of Representatives for Congressional District 7. Congressional District  7 is my home district, it is the place where I was born. My roots run deep here. My grandmother, Ruby, spent her childhood here and attended the then-segregated Phoenix Union Colored School, today known as the George Washington Carver Museum & Cultural Center. My grandmother purchased her first home near 24th Street and Broadway. My mom then raised five girls on her own, including my sister Donella, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy in her infant years. My sisters and I were faithfully raised in church and in the disabled community--we were raised to go to church, go to school and help others.

I am a first generational college graduate, three times over.  I define it as the safety net for my family, the climbed ladder rungs that helped me escape poverty, the uncharted path that through tears of pain and join has yielded an undergraduate degree from the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington, a juris doctorate degree from the Sandra Day O'Connor School of Law at Arizona State University, a law license in Arizona and Washington, admissions into the United States District Court of Arizona, the Ninth Circuit District Court of the United States, the United States Court of International Trade and an international MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management.

I have dedicated my career to law, policy, and business to improve the lives of children and communities through education, increased access to opportunities and entrepreneurship.

I am running because we need real leadership. I am running because we need authentic leadership. I am running because we need role models that look like us, share the same challenges and barriers as those from this district and have the courage and commitment to the people of our district. I am running to bring everyday solutions to the unnecessary challenged imposed by disconnect public policymakers. I am running to provide effective leadership, to bring better outcomes to our businesses, to increase opportunities for our families and provide real leadership. I am passionate about public policy, equity and the current state of our union. I believe all children should be granted the opportunities and grace I received (and needed) to escape the impoverished fate of my zip code.

Our work continues.

Forward,

Talonya Adams
