I am a bio scientist-educator who has been a public servant educating children for over 30 years. In recent years, I have witnessed the state and county back away from taking needed measures to lessen the toxic nutrient load in our 7 billion dollar per year Lagoon/Indian River.
I have seen firsthand people getting very sick from algae blooms along with the loss of edible fish and water clean enough to swim in. If active measures are not taken soon, we will lose indefinitely the opportunity to enjoy the rich environment we remember enjoying in Brevard County in the 1990s.
I will speak truth to power and apply science to the dynamic problems inherent in balancing sustainability with economic growth.
