In a time of hyper-partisan politics, we are speaking directly to the issues affecting coastal Orange County residents–and we are doing it with a little bit of humor and a whole lot of heart. What does the average voter in Newport Beach care about? They care about water quality, the beach, and offshore drilling. And so do we. Unfortunately, Republican incumbent, Dana Rohrabacher doesn’t. He’s received over 100k from oil companies, and votes continuously in favor of offshore drilling.
That’s why we are doing something that most PACs don’t do: launching a real and righteous campaign that’s full of dad jokes. Polling suggests that dad jokes are key in persuading undecided voters.
Our goal is to make up difference between Harley Rouda receiving 49% and 51% by appealing to environmentally-minded Independents and moderate Republicans who care about their coastal community.
Harley Rouda and Dana Rohrabacher are currently tied in the polls. NYT recently released their polling that has each candidate at 45%, it's completely tied with 10% undecided. We are the only PAC speaking to this community about the one thing they all love: the ocean.
Even lifelong Republicans oppose offshore drilling in Southern California. According to the PPIC:
“It is often said that the Trump administration is “playing to its base” in a polarized environment by proposing policies that are clearly at odds with Californians’ views. However, we found in the 2017 survey that majorities of conservatives, moderates, and liberals alike (55%, 71%, 83%, respectively) opposed more oil drilling off the coast. Democrats (14% favor, 81% opposed) and independents (30% favor, 68% opposed) were strongly opposed, while Republicans were divided (50% favor, 45% oppose). However, majorities of coastal Republicans joined with other regional and political groups in opposing more offshore oil drilling.”
This is one red tide that we can turn blue, with your help.
Support a change in how we speak to voters by helping us fund this mailer. We will feature a vintage postcard showing oil spills on ocean-goers, which was commonplace in the 50s and 60s, along with a funny and heartfelt story from one of our board members, a long time surfer and ocean advocate in the community.
PACs aren’t viewed favorably right now, since most are created from one wealthy individuals political motives. We are funded by hundreds of individuals across over 30 states who all donate an average of $37 each. We are a small team that cares deeply about electing progressive, ocean-minded candidates and we can’t do it without your help.
Thank you for your donation of any amount.
