Dixie School District Board of Trustees voted to change the name of Dixie School District and Dixie Elementary School by August 22, 2019, the first day of school.

They will only pay for the name change costs with non-District funds. Marin Community Foundation pledged $40,000. Our goal is to raise $10,000 more by June 1st.

Will you please make a donation?

Many schools no longer sanction “Dixie” as their school fight song including The Citadel, a conservative military college, and high schools in AR, TX, AL and VA. Dolly Parton, who has donated more than 100 million books to children, removed "Dixie" from her business name. Disney changed the name of its resort, Dixie Landings. We can change too.

THANK YOU!

“I would like to write in support of the Dixie school district's renaming. Demographically, this district is majority Caucasian. Many in our district do not experience racism on a daily basis (institutional or more blatant), so they don't see the name as a problem. Out of sight, out of mind. Especially, in this current political climate, keeping a confederate name (despite "good intentions") supports racism in this country. When I first bought our home in this district, I thought the name was very off-putting. People who grew up here are so used to it, they see it as harmless. Just because someone is nostalgic for a name does not negate our civic responsibility. Changing the name would be a huge step towards future inclusivity & diversity. Please support the name change!”
