All Beloit children are our children. Our school district needs experienced educators like me who understand how to equitably meet all children's needs. I am running for school board because I believe that our district needs policies that create systems of support for our families and teachers. I am a mother of three children who I will proudly send to our public schools. I taught history, English, and reading at Beloit Memorial High School for five years and I continued to work with early literacy in the Beloit community. I serve as the president of the board of Little Turtles Playhouse Parent Cooperative Daycare, and I am also the religious school teacher at my synagogue. Additionally, I work for Blackhawk Technical College, where I create early college opportunities for our kids. I truly have worked with Beloit children at all stages, and nothing matters more to me than creating sustainable policies that will grow academic achievement and social and emotional growth for all students and engaging with community members and organizations to increase opportunities.

Supporting our students means ensuring quality instruction and care. Teachers are the number one factor of academic achievement. Our children's learning environments are their work environments and we have to create optimal conditions if we expect success. Contributing to my campaign will help elect someone who deeply values teachers and understands the impact that class size and scheduling has for students' learning and teachers' job satisfaction.

All students are equally valuable, but they do not come to us on equal ground. All children are unique and have their own sets of gifts and challenges. A successful school district is one that anticipates this and plans to offer interventions to address a wide range of academic, behavioral, and physical needs. Beloit has always risen to the occasion of supporting our schools. Rather than spend alone, our district needs to do a better job engaging our community members and organizations to offer additional programming, interventions, and resources to our children and their families.

Contributing to my campaign will help elect someone who believes in the strength of using data to drive decision making. Numbers alone without a framework for interpreting them nor a strategic plan that effectively utilizes metrics is insufficient to position our district for success in any capacity. By creating strong goals with clear metrics and building in the expectation of using data into all levels of our district - not just our classrooms - we can respond more effectively to academic and behavioral challenges. Our district needs a strong foundation built on data and research that will withstand whims and passing fancies and keep our policies and practices student centered and effective.

Thank you for your contribution and I look forward to serving the Beloit community.
