One year ago, my only child said to me, Mama, I think I'm going to buy land in Canada. I had no idea why he was saying that. I asked him why. 

His response was, I think it might be the only place I can live in 20 or 30 years because of the climate crisis. That was devastating to hear. Any parent would do anything to protect their children, and that includes running for U.S. Senate to help tackle the climate crisis. No Iowan child should feel like they cannot safely live here.

As someone that’s been advocating for underrepresented children and families in court for 20 years, I knew the time had come to advocate for all of Iowa. Little did I know, a pandemic was on its way that would so dramatically impact every single one of our lives.

Seeing healthcare tied to employment during a time where 37 million Americans have lost their jobs in a matter of months reinforced my stance of healthcare being a human right and the need for universal single-payer healthcare is NOW. But that requires true advocacy. Our broken healthcare system exists because our local and federal representatives take large sums of money from healthcare and pharmaceutical companies.

Iowa deserves a Senator that puts the People Over Profits. Our campaign is 100% funded by individual donations. I am beholden to the people.

If we want to move forward toward a just and equitable nation that values healthcare, clean water and our children’s futures — we must elect leaders who always place people over profits. Leaders who firmly believe, like I do, that in a moral and wealthy nation, everyone should lead a life of health and dignity. This is where I need your help.
