I am running for the Board of Supervisors-Union Hall District because I believe new leadership will be a welcome change to set direction, build an inspiring vision, and engage residents to participate in the political decision-making process allowing taxpayers a voice on where their tax dollars are invested.

The county has recently faced several significant community issues, including, for example, the Summit View Business Park and the Mountain Valley Pipeline. Those projects have involved complex financial, environmental and private landowners’ rights issues. They are just two examples of projects where civic leaders should proactively and consistently engage the public in understanding their implications and together, as a community, weighing their pros and cons.

A challenge that we face is engaging our community in the county’s decision-making process. I plan to do greater outreach to the residents of the Union Hall District to bring their attention to opportunities and challenges involving the district and the county at large. Community conversations and educational forums held in the District and countywide are opportunities for public dialogue that I plan to implement. Our community needs to sort through challenges and opportunities together and ensure that taxpayers have a voice.

I support economic development that is characterized by respecting the rights of private property owners, freedom of economic exchange, competitive markets, affordable housing, low taxes, and limited government intervention.

Franklin County’s tag line, “A natural setting for opportunity,” celebrates two concepts. Our tag line doesn’t mean, however, that one factor should trump the other or come at a cost to the other. Franklin County is blessed with vast natural resources and picturesque landscapes, lakes and waterways, strong tourism dollars, a diverse workforce, prime agriculture and a rich history that we can capitalize on for a long time to come.

Working together we can affect positive change for Franklin County so all citizens can prosper.

Yours truly,

John

John is a very thoughtful and compassionate person who will listen to, engage with, and advocate for all the citizens of Franklin County. John has experience in public sector, private sector and military organizations. John has a very astute financial aptitude to go along with significant managerial experience as a Major in United States Army. I have every confidence that John will seek out differing points of view and make careful, thoughtful and deliberate decisions. I have no doubt that John will do tremendous job in his role as a member of the Franklin County Board of Supervisors. You will not find a person who is more qualified and who is more suitable for this role.”
