My name is Deja Lynn Alvarez, and I am a Trans Advocate and Addiction & Homelessness Specialist running to be Philadelphia's First LGBTQ Councilperson and the First Trans woman elected in Pennsylvania History!
I was once Homeless. I was once Addicted. I was a newly-transitioned Trans woman - constantly harassed by police - doing sex work just to survive. I have since become the founding Executive Director of Philadelphia's First LGBTQ-specific homeless shelter & recovery home: the Home for Hope. I am a member of the Philadelphia Commissioner of LGBTQ Affairs. I work as an HIV/AIDS Treatment Specialist. I am also a Police-LGBTQ relations activist and expert, where I help to get LGBTQ sex workers out of jail.
While I know the problems that everyday people face - I also know how to solve them. I have the experience, the relationships, and the know-how to get things done. I want to be a City Councilmember who takes our at-risk citizens, people of color, LGBTQ folks, and low-income Philadelphians seriously. I am running to bring an authority on addiction to City Hall and to turn around our Opioid Epidemic. I will use my vast working knowledge with city government to end street homelessness, pass workers’ right bills to make Philadelphia work for all of us.
However, I need YOUR help to win it. We need crucial funds to get boots on the ground. We have to knock thousands of doors to Get-Out-The-Vote, create & distribute literature, and staff polling locations for Election Day on Tuesday, May 21st, 2019.
Every little bit helps; so please give as much as you can to support Deja Lynn Alvarez for City Council At-Large! Let's make Philadelphia not only the birthplace of Liberty but the birthplace of Trans Liberty.
